Sea Otter Classic

I've posted this on the N. CA & 50+ boards...

I'm looking for info for the SOC century on the tandem. Anyone here have any experience? Advice? Recommendations? My club is all over it, but those folks race, and I'm 1.) too old, and 2.) too chicken.

TIA!

If they're using the same century route they have in the past, it's a route we ride our tandem on quite frequently (since it's practically right out our door). There isn't an enormous amount of climbing (only about 5,000 ft.), but it is a bit harder than it sounds, since the toughest climb is close to the finish.

Overall, it is a very pleasant ride that takes place almost entirely on lightly traveled rural roads. Depending on the exact route they map out, you may find yourself going 70 or 80 miles without a single stop sign or stop light! Give it a try!

Los Laureles Grade?
Bit of a grunt, but the descent is worth it.
Followed by the umph UP to the racetrack.

Nice ride! Try it, you'll like it!
