Winzip Disk Installation

Another poster with a Formula disk asked for some details about the Winzip installation. I ordered the Winzip from Tandems Ltd in Alabama over the phone. Before ordering, I talked to him about the pop rivets that were used to attach a cable stop that I thought would be needed on the chainstay. (I had a friend who had retrofitted a Winzip and his shop installed a cable housing stop on the chainstay.) I was asking because most pop rivets are aluminum and I had a steel frame and I didn't want to put those two metals together. He said that drilling would not be necessary because he recommended using a cable housing end sleeve that he would provide that would slide into one of the holes under the stoker bottom bracket. I would need to enlarge the hole slightly. It sounded good to me and I ordered the brake from him and it was easy to enlarge the opening. I did have to sand down the cable housing itself to get the housing to fit into the end sleeve. I am enclosing some photos to show what I am talking about.

Thank you for the detailed report and great pictures. I'm going to save these, as well as send this post to my mechanic.

That's similar to how I installed mine. I found a step down housing ferrel or something similar that fit snugly into the rear most hydraulic hose fitting. It works fine.

We've had the Gold full sintered metallic EBC pads on our Winzip brake for a few hundred miles now and I am very happy with them. I asked about brake pad materials and brake pad manufacturers in another thread:
https://www.bikeforums.net/tandem-cycling/302000-disc-brake-pad-questions-about-different-materials-makers.html

With the original pads (which I don't know much about except they were painted red and were some sort of semi-metallic - since I could see the metal strands in the pad), I never felt like they were capable of stopping as well as the V brakes that the Winzip replaced and they wore quickly at 3 State 3 Mtn in May in Chattanooga. Whether it was the pads or my set up would be a fair question but I will just say that now the brake is very good and it does brake stronger than the V Brake and they are not wearing quickly. I'm pleased.
