I am using all Record 10 drivetrain except for the cassette which I am using a SRAM or a Dura Ace depending on the range needed. I use a Jtek to smooth things out in the shifting department. I am using10 speed downtube index shifters [Modified Record bar end shifters] but have brifters sitting in the tool box [should be installing them in a week or two]. 53-42-28 for the crank [28 is a stronglight]. I liked the 30 better [seems to shift easier]. Maybe if I went to t 39 that may make the shift easier from low to mid ring.

Butcher, what are doing with the downtube shifters when you switch over to the Ergos? I'm looking for a pair of 10speed dt shifters for a project if you want to unload them.

By the way, we run full Campy Record on our tandem.

Thanks
KRhea

This is our set up. Calfee Dragonfly, Chorus shifters, Dura Ace derailluer, Sram 11-28, and 30T small chainring. Works great! Gives us the range that we need riding in the Colorado mountains. We are using the shiftmate to accomodate the Campy/Shimano thing.

I will note that we tried the 28T chainring at first but ran into some problems. We are using FSA cranks and I recall that a 28t ring that was not FSA and required washers between the granny and middle chainring (b/c the salsa 28t ring does not have the same offset as the FSA ring) - but that caused a clearance problem against the frame. So we ended up changing to the 30t ring and no problems since (gearing has not been a problem). just my .02

Another thing to think about - while Shimano cassettes and wheels etc. are more readily available than Campag, the Shimano cogs do tend to chew up the splines, particularly if single cogs are used on Aluminium hub bodies.

As usual TG's website has a nice article on this. If I remember correctly his thinking is to stick with 9 speed on Shimano cassettes because then the larger sprockets come in groups of 3s and 2s rather so don't chew up the freehub in the same way that 10 speed sprockets can. Alternatively there's all-Campag, which seems not to have the same problem.
