    Nexus 8 Hub

    Nexus 8 with rollerbrake.
Any of you pairs riding with one?

I stole the Nexus off my long recumbent and put it on the tandem.

After one ride…20ks up the bike path.
    Love it.
    Smooth changes
Can change after you have stopped so always in the right gear.
Puts the gearing from 20 gear inches to 105 gear inches.
My lady is not strong so it’s nice to have that low gear.
The rollerbrake I wasn’t sure I’d like but it’s a great brake and adds to the braking

Over the next few weeks we’ll put lots of miles on it and see if we still like it… but I think from one ride it’s on for keeps.

Does Shimano recommend tandem use or spec weight limits? That's a rollerbrake in addition to the original brake?

Well I think it would probably be OK. I have 5 of the nexus-7's in service right now including on my commuter which has been rock solid for 4 years of no attention -- just daily, year-round riding.

I plan to put on of my nexus-7s in a neighbor's old schwinn twinn tandem he uses to haul kids to the local pool.

Shimano dosen't even recommend the use of a 3 speed grank up front with the Nexus so probably not.
Weight limits? Well the long recumbent I took it off is twice the weight of the tandem and I've used it without problems on that the last 3 years.
Nexus seems like it's imposable to kill to me but I'll keep trying

dbg,,,, you sound like a "Nexus man" to me...
I wouldn't mind putting more on some of my other bikes but hard to spend that kind of doe on some of the old beaters I ride

My interest in them is waning a bit. Here's a link from when I was really hot on them

http://dbg.home.att.net/kid_bikes.htm (the "eature bike" is also a nexus-7)

They are pretty bullet proof. But taking one off when a flat needs repairing is not obvious to someone not familiar with them.
