Kaiser Pass, rising from Huntington Lake is indeed formidable, but it is an afterthought to the getting to Huntington Lake, on the infamous Big Creek. Daunting doesn't do justice to Big Creek. A 15% grade is hard enough, but by that time you are already into 70 miles, and 6,000 or so feet of climbing.

It's not until you are on Big Creek on the Climb to Kaiser that you understand what the logo is all about. The snail is saying "...on your left".

We're Rick and Lynn, this photo taken at Weeden Island http://www.weedonislandpreserve.org/ on a Sunday morning.

For many years, members and friends of the http://stpetecycling.com/ have been meeting for a Sunday morning "breakfast" ride, cycling at a leisurely pace for 20 to 40 miles.

We regularly see two to four tandems on our weekend rides.

From the looks of the background in your picture, I think you're going to need a trailer for your tandem so you can tow a surfboard!

    Hi,

We rode the Tour de Big Bear on Aug. 4. We saw about ten tandems (many brands)
in an event that was capped at 1000 bikes. Of course we may have missed some, but the order of magnitude is right. It was a great ride and we were particularly pleased with how well we climbed. There were professional photos taken along the route, and while I cannot post them here since I don't own them, I think I can link to the page where the photographer posted them without violating any copyrights. I particularly liked this one:

    Best wishes,

You would think after 8 years of tandeming we would have some photos of us. We just purchase this 98 C'dale MT3000 and had someone take a pic just before we set off on our maiden voyage on it. Hopefully we will get our road tandem on here soon.mtb5.jpg

Has the experiment been successful? If so, are you going to stick with the Wal Mart bike, or move up a bit?

I didn't recognize the location, so I looked it up. Here is as close as Street View will get.

is it fair to post videos of happy tandem riders?
I have no association with this video, but it's the most awesome thing ever. I skipped past the construction part until I got to the kids riding it at about 5:10 Cute overload.

What a great place to ride. We just took our vacation in San Francisco and were right where you are. We rented a tandem and had a blast but was wishing we had "our tandem" there. I would take the tandem over to Sausalito and ride. That whole area is just so cycling friendly!!!

Great video. I noticed that they used the "proper method"!

The $300 experiment is a success. I dabble in framebuilding a bit. Right now I'm dreaming of a tandem
with a crankforward design like a cruiser with 20" wheels and a frame that disassembles and fits into
a suitcase. Our hope is to be able to go back to touring in different countries again.

For inspiration go to Phat Cycle and look at their Longboard for a crank forward design. Electra Cycles has something very similar.

This photo was taken just before our August 17, 2012 crossing of the Golden Gate Bridge on a rental tandem. It was an unusually clear day pedaling north on the eastern pedestrian path through thousands of walkers, runners, gawkers and a few cyclists. Check that off our bucket list.

I obviously couldn't see the reaction of my six year old as we approached the finish line of our first mountain bike race together. This picture captures the moment perfectly. It was extra special sharing the podium with my little guy taking third place.

The 16" mini tandem was raced again this past weekend adding to the medal count my boys have together. I never tire of seeing them ride this bike.

This was from the fall of 2011 riding out to a cider mill. Great way to keep the whole family together to ensure nobody is left behind. The trailer worked as a place to store jackets as well as a couple gallons of fresh Michigan Apple cider.
