Can a Santana Sovereign's boom stand up to a Yakima Sidewinder?

We're exploring roof racks for our aluminum Sovereign and am curious if anyone has dimpled the boom from the Yakima Sidewinder's boom tube clamp system?

I myself prefered to use the Thule/ ATOC because the load was on the fork and rear wheel like it was designed to be. Got my truck so no more on top for me.

also use the sidewinder with alu framed tandem, no problem. the mount for the boom is long and made of rubber, no no change of damaging the boom, at least its the way I see it, and with that rack, the rear wheel clears the trunk once open.

Thanks for the replies. I like the ability to open the hatch on my Scion xB with the tandem atop, so maybe the Sidewinder is what I'll end up looking for. Any advice on a cheap (oxymoron?) place to pick one up...

I just purchased a Rocky Mounts R4 tandem tray for my Thule rack. I payed $295 out the door from my LBS. It has the swivel fork mount head and telescopic rear wheel tray extension so that it can be moved out of the way for hatches/trunks or used with a regular bicycle. I like the telescoping rear tray because I needed another tray once in a while for a regular bike and now I can carry either with one tray. The only thing that it doesn't include is a skewer with a build in lock assembly. You can order their lock skewer for $30 or put in another manufacturer's locking skewer. I could use my Yakima Copperhead skewer if I am going someplace with it that I need to lock the fork down.
