Looking at a used Tandem

I'm posting this in both the Tandem and the Recumbent forum:

So the wife and I are going to look at a Sun EZ Tandem CX tomorrow.
It’s a 2004 model with approx. 600 miles on it. Asking price of 1200 dollars
seems reasonable. We’ve tandemed a little before, but always on a DF
and my 5’4” wife complains about not being able to see over my shoulders.
I’m 5’11”. She also prefers to pedal and rest, pedal and rest whereas I
just keep-on a-crankin’. From what I’ve read, as a stoker she’ll be most
comfortable on the Sun in a more upright position due to the geometry
of the bike. With me somewhat laid back we may be able to get around the
vision thing. I know the bike doesn’t have IPS fitted to it now and if we
like the bike and purchase it, retro-fitting IPS will definitely seriously
be looked into by us in order to get around her second complaint. She also
is starting to complain about getting a sore butt, but we know the
recumbent will cure that.

We’re both 50+ yrs. old and though I bought a Sun EX Sport CX last
year I still ride both ‘bents and DF’s. My bride has yet to try a ‘bent. She
has M.S. and we don’t ride all that much so this heavy, relatively inexpensive
tandem will fit our needs quite well, we think. Just a few neighborhood
cruises and the occasional canal path ride is all we do together, or
shall I say did together.

Feel free to show me the flaws in our logic, as we’re going to look at the
monster tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks and Happy Trails

...it takes two to tandem!

best of luck with the new adventure!

brewer and malkin

p.s. i believe the first rule of tandem is for the captain to be certain that the stoker is comfortable and having a good time. took me almost a year to come to that conclusion. you might get there sooner. cheers!

I went into tandeming with that approach after years of watching couples in the clubs I ride with irritate each other.
