I worked at a bicycle shop in the early 80's that sold Takara. Quality bikes for their price range. They did not offer high end models. I do not remember a tandem. It's probably from the late seventies.
Neat little cruiser !!!

Unique shape to the rear fender! The spoke protector matches the chainguards on the cranks. cool.

Takara was an Asian (Japan?) import in 70/80s with average/decent componentry, but not high end.
Never did see a Takara tandem. Looks like a neat cruiser-type.
Enjoy the ride TWOgether!
