Did a Group Tandem Ride Today
We did a fun, fast group tandem today with 5 other couples. We started out with the infamous South Bay Spectrum Ride (about 100-150 riders including Pros through Cat 5) from its start in Sunnyvale to Page Mill Rd at Stanford University. (They turned left. We took the short cut going straight.) Several of the tandems set the pace along Foothill at speeds averaging around 26 mph. Our tandem group continued to Woodside where we turned right onto Canada Rd. Eventually the Spectrum ride (or what was left of it as the fiedd had shattered and the front group was down to about 20-30 riders) caught up to us after Canada Rd crested a mile or so after passing under US 280. All of the tandems started to hammer away to stay with the pack and we managed to keep pace to their turnaround. Our tandem grupetto kept going northward up to the Crystal Springs Reservoir before heading back home through Woodside and Portola Valley, stopping in Los Altos for coffee, and finally heading home after an exhausting 60-ish mile ride.
