July 21st (20,018)

It's only been 11 days since I last posted a summary, but there are some time-sensitive entries in this short list of 7 entries so I figured I'd go ahead and post the summary "out of cycle".

The actual entries with linked websites, objects, video's etc. can be found here:

[h=2]Two More Mid-Week Rides, But More Stress Than Relief…[/h] Posted on September 19, 2013 by TG
Well, I was able to get home earlier than usual tonight and on Tuesday so that Miss Debbie and I could get in a quick ride on the tandem before it got dark enough for a headlight. I would have normally considered this a good thing, but once again stupid motorists quickly removed the smile from my face and moved the rides from the realm of ”goodness” into “evil”.
Let’s see we had:
  • The Millennial punk in the POS Volvo who decided to see how close he could get while putting his foot to the floor and speeding by.
  • The idiot in the garbage truck who simply had to speed by so he could be the 20th car sitting at the 4-way stop instead of the 21st one sitting behind a bicycle.
  • The two drivers at the 4-way stop who both arrived before we did who simply couldn’t grasp the concept that we’re a vehicle and will take our turn; no need to “wave us through” since we sure as hell don’t want to have you sitting on our rear wheel for the next few miles since you’d likely not know how to safely pass a bicycle any better than you know how to deal with one at a 4-way stop.
  • The school bus driver who could have easily and safely passed us on a long, gradual descent with gravity on their side, lots of forward visibility and no on-coming traffic who decided to “hold back” and back up a string of 10 cars, and then try to pass us going up the other side of the valley, with on-coming traffic around a blind curve: brilliant!
  • The handful of motorists who are delayed by mere seconds that feel compelled to display their intolerance of cyclists by flooring it as soon as they can finally pass and speeding down the road at twice the posted limit to make up that time. I especially love it when they do that and a few moments later we pull up along side at the next stop light: oh yeah, that was worth the effort!
  • The string of motorists who were held up by the nervous nellie who we had to wave around that nearly rear-ended the nervous nellie when they had to stop an 1/8th of a mile down the road to make a left turn: yeah, and y’all thought we were holding you up!
But, let me thank the 40 or 50 other motorists who simply figured it out and were able to peacefully coexist with us on the road without so much as a bit of angst that we could detect.

It's been almost a month since I last posted a summary, so here are the last 12 entries since then; well.. OK. There are really just 10 entries, as one cross-references some postings over at my other blog and another one was a server status update. As you'd suspect, if you've been watching the news, we're snowbound here in Atlanta. Or, more correctly, iced-in. We don't really get snow here in the south, we get a layer of ice with a top-coat of snow that protects the ice. It's a wicked combination in a place that thinks salt is something you only put on fries and tortilla chips and sand is something you find on the beach. Well, not really... but it seems that way.

It's been a month since I last posted a summary, so here are the last 10 entries since then. Believe it or not, we've had another snow / ice storm that shut down the Atlanta metro area for a couple more days. If this blog summary and the blog content seems a little light it's because the lion's share of my blogging energies in February went into a five-part blog entry that I posted over on the Tandem Club of America's blog (www.tandemclub.org/blog/) and they're, well, let's just say comprehensive. If I made $100 an hour blogging instead of doing it all pro-bono, lets just say that I'd have covered the cost of our Bushtech trailer. Anyway, that's why the blog may look a little thin.

As always, the actual entries with linked websites, objects, video's etc. can be found here:

March 29, 2014 (30,001)

It's been a month since I last posted a summary, so here are the last 10 entries since then. Sadly, the weather continues to be less than friendly to all but the most hard-core cyclists who will get out and ride in just about any type of weather. For, for mere morals like ourselves, the cold and wet weekends -- like this one; yes it's been raining since yesterday morning -- have kept us off the tandem. So, looking forward to next weekend, I'm not expecting us to be much more than casual riders at the Alabama Tandem Weekend. But I digress.

It's been a bit over a month since I last posted a summary, so here are the last 9 entries since then. Sadly, the weather continues to be less than friendly on weekends and the allergy/pollen season has been giving me sinus infections which collectively have kept us off the tandem. We've not been completely idle, which is why you'll find some not-necessarily tandem-related content in this latest batch of blog entries: sorry about that. However, it does provide honest insight into how we spend time when we're not able to devote enough time to our primary hobby, tandem cycling. Yes, tandem cycling remains top dog; the motorcycle is our diversion: it lets us ride two-up, but with a completely different set of friends and objectives.

It's been about a month since I last posted a summary after spending most of our free time during October at motorcycle and tandem rallies. There are are about seven entries -- including a three-part rally report from STR -- and the usual summary within a summary of blog entries over at the big-bike blog.

As always, the actual entries with linked websites, objects, video's etc. can be found here:

It must be Winter! Just five entries over the past 30 day, one of which is a year-in-review, another is a cross-posting summary from my other blog and another is a post-card entry, i.e., a photo with not much more than a caption. With any luck I'll be able to coax my sweetie out onto the tandem this week; not an easy thing with temps in the low 50's / high 40's with high humidity, but we'll see. Sure would like to start out the new year on the right track, i.e., more tandem time!

It's definitely Winter. Another month where there are only five entries, and the fifth one was actually a February entry. I didn't even bother to include a summary of postings from my motorcycle blog, as there are only three entries there: one in Jan and two in Feb! The weather has definitely not been cooperating; way too much moisture and temps that are outside my stoker's comfort range; yeah I know. We've got friends who ride all winter long in Chicago... but my sweetie's a Georgia Peach and peaches and cold temperatures don't mix well.

We're definitely missing those mild winters from about 10 years ago; cold & wet weekends have been the norm. I can sum up this update in two words: NAHBS / STR 2015

Yes, those are the highlights. Most of what I wrote about was our weekend trip up to the North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS) in Louisville, Kentucky on the heels of a snow storm that nearly thwarted our plans and, well what we saw at NAHBS. The first post is just a photo teaser which, quite frankly, anymore I think most folks who surf the web are more into looking at photos with pretty worthless captions vs. word-rich content. Oh well, what can I say: I'm a Wall Street Journal kind of a guy in an Instagram world. The other big news is, registration for this year's Southern Tandem Rally in Richmond, Virginia is now open. You have to go back to the 1860's to find a time when Virginia would ever be considered part of the south as most of us think of the south. But, by golly that's where we're headed in October! Being a damn yankee (a northerner who came to the south and didn't leave), I may have to wear blue and grey!
