We’re in the dog days of summer and coming off the heels of our week-long, 2,000-mile epic motorcycle trip to Key West, Florida, we’ve been staying closer to home and the posting content on both of my blogs reflects that: it's a bit thin. But, there's always something going on so "it is what it is."

As always, the actual entries with linked websites, objects, video's etc. can be found here:

Hey, a total of eight (8) entries that talk about tandems and cycling this time! Yeah, the blog has been a bit light on postings this year and I can see that in the hit counts and views that have steadily fallen over the past few years from about 10,000 views in July 2013 to about 8,000 views in July 2014 and closer to 6,500 views this past July. We'll have some new material for a few entries over the next month as we get our tandem back from Calfee, get in some tune-up rides and head up to Richmond, Virginia for the 2015 Southern Tandem Rally. In the mean time....

The rest of the story on the Calfee encompasses about 1/2 the content from September's nine blog entries about tandems & cycling. There are some rally-related updates and also some "deep thoughts" about a variety of different subjects. The Calfee saga will have a postscript that I won't be able to write until after all of my components make it to the house sometime early next week. I might have to find a way to get though the weekend by borrowing the XTR rear derailleur off the triplet if everything but the rear derailleur arrives on Friday. Of course, our weather forecasts have gone from "beautiful" to "waterfall" here in Atlanta, so no telling if and when we'll get a chance to throw a leg over the Calfee this coming weekend.

Let's just say that October was a mixed bag. There's no Southern Tandem Rally write-up because we never made it to Richmond, Virginia: thank you hurricane Joaquin. There wasn't a single day when we were able to even ride our tandem for reasons that will become somewhat obvious. But, the Calfee is ready to go once we are, there were folks doing tandem rallies in Florida and we were reminded that good fortune comes in all kinds of different forms, shapes and sizes. We count our friends as the greatest good fortune and were reminded that there are a lot of really kind-hearted, caring folks out there doing wonderful things each and every day that never get a mention. It's when you're on the receiving end that you realize how impactful it is!

I was feeling bad for missing the entire month of October for tandem riding as well. Now I feel fortunate that the reason we couldn't ride was because we ran into an adenovirus and a secondary bacterial pneumonia rather than the side of a wayward motorist. I'm glad there was no permanent damage to anything important.

Yep, so glad that half of September and October went in the toilet simply because of bad flu, asthma, and giardiasis. We are two weeks into recovery and already able to ride on two consecutive days instead of crawling around the house the next day.

Thanks for the update. Heal up quickly!

I parked my BMW in the late 70s. Riding in the US just got too spooky. Bicycles seem much safer.

Here's hoping that everyone was able to find time to spend with loved ones during the holidays and perhaps even get in a little cycling! Here at TG-central we're looking forward to returning to the tandem in 2016 after Miss Debbie was sidelined back in October. As soon as she gets the all clear from her doctor -- hopefully this coming week -- we'll begin the process of regaining our collective cycling form, endurance and performance... as the weather will allow! Our enthusiasm remains strong and the Calfee is all ready to go as is the Ventana, with an eye towards spending a little time playing in the dirt.

Anyway, here's what I've been writing about during November and December, with something of an apology for having a lot of non-cycling content intermixed with weekly posts: my blog became a communication vehicle with my parents during our post-accident recovery, hence the added content.

As always the entries at a blog always appear in reverse chronological order so that's how they get listed here as well. The actual entries with linked websites, objects, video's etc. can be found here:

Lots of event information coming in to the geek over the past and we thank those who have been keeping us in mind! TheTandemLink.com will be updated in kind this week, although I'm leaning towards moving the Calendar to my Blog since it's a lot easier to update than my very old tech website. We'll see. Anyway, those updates are what's behind a lot of the blog content that you'll find from January and February in this summary and at the blog.

Sadly, the weather has been a challenge for us in terms of giving us opportunities to get out and ride on the road or trails. Debbie has been very good about riding indoors on a Cyclops Fluid2 resistance trainer and using our healthy collection of Coach Troy's DVDs to keep her heart rate up: she did a 90-minute training ride this past Thursday! No way I could ever ride the stationary bike that long; she's amazing... and she'd mine! Anyway, here's hoping the weather or your capacity to get out and ride in the cold temps is allow y'all to get in some saddle time with your riding partners.

As always the entries at a blog always appear in reverse chronological order so that's how they get listed here as well. The actual entries with linked websites, objects, video's etc. can be found here:

Wow, has it really been two months since I posted one of these? Time flies when you least expect it! On the bright side, we're now enjoying longer days and that means mid-week cycling after work -- Debbie on her road bike and me off-road, noting that our schedules aren't quite in sync. But, better that we're cycling again even if it's not together, as it makes the cycling together all that much more enjoyable!

So, who turned up the thermostat to 95°F? Man, it's been HOT, I mean really HOT this summer. And, it's not so much the heat as it is the humidity + heat that makes sucking down air when you're out riding a challenge. In fact, even riding the motorcycle in this kind of weather has been a challenge. We did our second annual motorcycle ride from Atlanta to Key West over the 4th of July holiday week and we had to wear full-face helmets coming back just to keep the blast of hot air from cooking our faces. Of course, here in the south oppressive heat generates afternoon thunder showers that soak our off-road trails so no love looking for a shady respite from the baked asphalt as the trails have been closed quite a bit. Oh well, fall is just around the corner, along with the Southern and Florida Tandem Rallies.

Thin pickings in this compendium, which may be a good thing. As noted in the two previous summaries I've changed how I use my two blogs such that the TandemGeek's Blog is pretty much tandem or cycling specific and everything else goes on the RidingTwoUp blog. I still provide a listing / links to the RidingTwoUp blog entries whenever I create this summary for anyone who might be curious what else has been going on but that's the extent of it. We'll be heading out for our first cool-weather tandem ride today as the temperatures took a nose dive this week. It won't last, but it does seem like the super hot days of summer are now behind us. Next weekend is the Southern Tandem Rally up in Cookeville, Tennessee, so that will provide some good material for next week's blog entry. Anyway, life is good and tandem cycling has played a huge part in that for us and for that we remain ever thankful.

Good grief, has it been three and a half months since I posted one of these? Wow, time flies when you're having fun... and we always have fun. Perhaps the most important entry in this entire thread is my most recent one from yesterday which provides a summary listing with links of the larger 2017 tandem rallies and events that have come to my attention. And, by come to my attention, that means they're typically annual events that are easy to track down when it comes time to see when and where they're being held!

I see that I've pimped the Sebring Tandem Rally twice in the past two months, but what the heck: the folks down at PANTHERS are incredibly enthusiastic about their tandeming and always put on a good time. If it was only a four or five hour drive instead of eight we'd definitely head down. Perhaps one time in the not too distant future; time will tell.

Wow, even our Southern Tandem Rally report seems rather dated at this point. Cest la vie. On the bright side, we're enjoying spring like weather here in Atlanta at the moment -- a week after being iced-in for three days -- and took full advantage of that by getting in a couple tandem rides from the house.

As for what this thread is about, it's kind of like Seinfield: it's a thread about nothing. But, if someone has nothing to do and has read everything posted on the BikeForum's tandem forum, they can find a few more things to read over at the blog. For those who don't follow the blog but who still visit TheTandemLink.com for rally and club information, note that I've moved both of those sections to new pages on our blog. It's just a lot easier for me to update "real time" vs. using the antiquated computer and software that my .html site is hosted on. Anyway, those were some of the more recent things I've made mention of on the blog and, coincidentally, a lot of the earlier spring rallies have opened their registration windows so lots of those items dominated my early February blog entries.

If we've missed any major tandem rallies or tandem cycling events -- road or off-road -- let us know and we'll get those added. Same with Tandem Clubs; if you belong to a collection of tandem teams looking to attract other tandem cyclists in your area we can certainly add your club contact information to our listing.

Good grief, has it really been since February when I last posted one of these compendiums? On the bright side, there are only 20 or so entries but as promised I've stuck to the tandem-only content on The TandemGeek's Blog so with the exception of a single post that has a compendium of blog entry titles from my "other blog" it's pretty much motorcycling-free content. We're still mulling over whether or not we'll head up to North Carolina for the Southern Tandem Rally in September: it's the last "big tandem event" on our 2017 calendar but we're still working calendar conflicts. So, that's about it on the horizon. Of late, we get out on the weekends for 25-35 mile loops from the house but nothing epic and nothing in the dirt. Anyway, for those who are interested or just need to kill a few minutes and would rather read about tandem cycling than struggling through current events or the Facebook newsfeeds....

As always the entries at a blog always appear in reverse chronological order so that's how they get listed here as well. The actual entries with linked websites, objects, video's etc. can be found here:
