Comment from guy in car - had to share
We were riding home today from the Berlin Farmers market in NJ when a guy in a car sped up to us with his passenger window down and commented.. NICE…You guys are doing it twogether out in public!
Sorry to beat a dead horse with all of the previous threads addressing such. . I was bored and just wanted to share. We are rather new to this and I just can’t believe how much fun we are having on this bike.
Ok ok.. I exaggerated about the “sped up’ part.

Every so often some car folks will comment when we are on the road or at a stop light. Not all drivers are hostile!
While we are hardly new to tandeming, it's still nice to get a compliment on our ride of choice!

Yeah, and a car passed us, the passenger rolled down the window, leaned out big time, and yelled, 'hey that's a cool bike!'. Very nice to get positive screaming comments from cars.

Mostly we get positive comments, but we're in the city where people are more used to bikes. Tandems seem to generate quite a bit of delight... a lot of people laugh at us.
When using the bike as a taxi for my wife, a Philly favorite is:
"I got me a token"
I once dropped my wife off at a meeting at 8:00AM on a Saturday morning in downtown Philly. It was a summer day, and very quiet. A few drunken individuals were staggering around, clearly still somewhere in the night before. One saw me and started singing, surprisingly tuneful "One - is - the loneliest number..."
Someone yelled at us from a doorway in West Philly once "I'll give you a reefer for a ride on that thing"
My personal favorite while passing some incredulous youths playing basketball on the city street:
"This isn't ****ing Disneyland!" Clearly, a geeky white couple riding a tandem through a rough neighborhood really does make it more like Disneyland. Without the contribution from this streetwise poet I would never have realized that.

It keeps getting more intersting that is certain! I was thinking about riding the tandem to Phily the other day, I was craving a Tony Luke Pork Italian.. just can't find a safe route to cross the river from where I am located. Now it seems the winter weather is settling in and it will have to wait till spring.
Nice to hear from local folks..
Regards

Definately must cross the Delaware. The river does freeze over from time to time but rarely south of New Hope.

Had a funny comment yesterday. Rode by a family on the local bike trail. Dad says to family, "look at the tandem going by". Young daughter says to family, "wow, that's cool. And there are people riding on it too".
Made my day
Happy New Year everyone.

My favorite comment so far was in a 4,000 person day ride. We were going past a bunch of half-bikes when some yelled, "Wait a minute, you can have two?!"
