Long Beach Tour de Cure (May 31, 2009)--Free Registration!!!

    Hello all,

Last year, 13,000 cyclists raised more than $13 million to help fight diabetes in Tour de Cure events around the country.

Nicole and I will be doing the 60 mile ride, which used to include a trip up our least favorite training hill, Newport Coast (hence our team name: “Newport Coasters”), but now goes in the opposite direction through the beautiful Palos Verdes Estates. Shorter options of 33, 20, 10, and 5 miles are also available.

Every year I try to put together a tandem team. Last year, I told the organizers I would have better luck if they only charged one entry fee per bike. Evidently they listened to me:

Register before Monday (2/2/2009) at 10:00 PM using the promotional code: SUPERBOWL09 and the registration fee (usually $15 to $25 dollars; double that for a tandem) is waived.

(You do have to agree to raise $150 when you sign up, but the only penalty for not raising any money is: you don’t get a T-Shirt...at least that’s how it’s always been in the past).

There is no reason not to sign up! Start your own team, or if you'd like to ride with us here's a link to our team page: http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR?tea...d=5633&pg=team

    Back to work,

    Back to work,
Question for you if you know the answer I registers and intended to ride single but I do have a tandem if I can convince the wife to ride the event do I need to change anything in my registration or contact someone that I intend on using my tandem or just show up with tandem and wife? any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

For the actual ride, it's not going to make much difference. They won't refuse her snacks or water at the rest stops. She would need a ticket for lunch at the end of the ride; that requires registration. Hey, it's free until Monday night, go ahead and register her.

Typically at events such as this, registration is supposed to be per rider, not per bike*. Among other things there are various waivers absolving the organizers and any one else along the route of liability in case of injury. Also, at charitable events, separate registration probably results in more fund raising.

*We're riding the Tour of Palm Springs next month, and they have a special tandem registration ($85 instead of $60 for a single).
