Part II: The New Market

You might want to contact two or three of the bigger tandem speciality dealers to see what they may have to offer at different price points to meet your needs. In some respects, they can often times offer a better value on existing inventory or will be able to offer an entry-level spec model that would be a better fit for your needs that an older, higher-end model for the same cost. Moreover, they will be able to take care of the shipping as part of the deal. Two dealers whom I've known for many years who have vast amounts of experience with these very-long bikes are:

precisiontandems.com in Kansas / Mark Johnson
tandemseast.com in New Jersey / Mel Kornbluh

Oh yes I have

I have been in search mode for a while, have talked to some of the people with used bikes and touched base with a few dealers. Just like with the tandem I would sure like to just try one out for a little while to see how the famiy responds. I have a feeling I will have a garage full over the years.
thanks for the reply.

Are you interested in building your own? Warning, it takes quite a bit of time and TLC. I put one together in about 6 weeks, but it requires some work and a few tools. I think I spent under $2000 for the triplet, but if I were to do it again, I would add a custom paint job.

I bought a used Meridian triplet a few years ago.
It was shipped from New York to Texas by a freight forwarder.

We bought it without riding it first. My stokers and I
had previous tandeming experience. We decided that a triplet
was the solution to someone being left out. With hindsight,
we're still glad we bought the triplet. It is not for sale.

A single test ride really doesn't provide much real information.
The triplet took me a bit of time to learn how to handle.
After the first test ride, I didn't know what to think
about the different handling.
