Dawes Galaxy Twin

Does anyone have any experiences with Dawes Galaxy Twin? If so, I'd love to hear about them. I did a search of this forum but it didn't turn up anything.

I'm considering ordering a new one through my LBS, this would be our first tandem. I'm 5'7" and my stoker is 5'1" - together we weigh about 255 pounds on a good day.

Rode a Dawes tandem back in the 1970s. Was a s good as anything else on the market at that time.
See if you can get a test ride at an LBS.

The only bike shop I've found within a reasonable distance with a tandem to test ride actually had two tandems, but both were Cannondale MTBs!

I have a good relationship with my LBS, so as long as the frame isn't a noodle I should be fine; they'll swap out pretty much anything I manage to break - I know from experience

In the '70s, Dawes bike were made a little way away from me in Tyseley nr. Birmingham. They're made in the far east now, but I wonder if the bikes are still assembled there.

Nothing wrong with them. A good day ride and short tour tandem, which you can get ridiculously discounted at Spa Cycles at the moment. Also take a good look at the Orbit range as well. For a similar price you should be able to buy a similar or better specced bike, with the legendary service from JD Cycles of Ilkley thrown in.

That is ridiculously discounted! The only potentially bad thing I notice is that the frame is 19"/15" (2008 model) whereas the 2009 frame is 19"/16.5". I wonder if the 15" would be to small for my stoker who has quite a long leg length for her size. It'd be a 240 mile round trip to try it and find out. Decisions, decisions.

Nope, the building still exists but not occupied by Dawes.
