Gates apparently does not have nearly cautious enough lawyers. Talked to their techincal support person, and he said that the skipping was unlikely to have caused a problem to the belt.
In Gate's experience, skipping only causes damage to the belt if it rolls off in the process, which ours hasn't done.
So for now belt No 2 is not skipping even under heavy load, and is acceptably quiet, so we'll keep running it and see how it goes.
You could fall off a cliff and die.
You could get lost and die.
You could hit a tree and die.
OR YOU COULD STAY HOME AND FALL OFF THE COUCH AND DIE.
