Hello Everyone. I just picked up a used 2007 Cannondale Street Tandem and purchased two sets of pedals in anticipation of our first ride this Saturday. For the stoker I picked up a set with Spd on one side and platform on the other and traditional spds for the Captain. Should be a wonderful experience . I am going to take it for a spin today by myself to make sure everything is up to scratch before my wife joins me on Saturday. Hopefully everything is functional. Take care

Hey, there's no accounting for taste. If Mrs R liked the green, who were we to say anything?

I consider the stoker's seat as a fashion free zone. As long as she is comfortable and will go riding with me I don't care if she sits on a fuzzy pink toilet seat cover............... ok well maybe I do care...a little..... maybe more

I'm glad that posting this photo gave someone an idea that may solve their problem. I'm always checking out other people's bikes to see if they've done something that I could adopt. This stoker stem is built by R+E and consists of the fixed part of the stem (the painted part), a threadless stem adapter, and a threadless stem. I think that it's an elegant design and like it better than the commercial ones I've seen. We've never had a problem with it but it amazes me that the whole thing stays together: The handlebars are bolted to the stem, the stem is bolted to the stem adapter, the stem adapter is wedged into the stoker stem, the stoker stem is bolted to the captain's seatpost, and the captain's seatpost is secured by the binder bolt.

The stem is available at R+E Cycles: www.rodcycle.com Click the link on the left titled "Other stuff we make".

Hmm. I like that idea and had forgotten that some pedals were made like that. What with me being a Speed Play/Frog fan, I forget that there are other clip-less pedals. Like you, I just acquired a tandem and my stoker won't have anything to do with toe clips or clip-less pedals. Platforms only. Maybe, as we become a better team I can suggest those to her. Thanks for the idea. I was wondering how I was going coerce her into clip-less pedals. This may be the ticket.

Oh, and have fun. Our first few rides have gone well (knock on wood) and we get a little better every time. She likes it and so do I! There's a learning curve, though.

We have owned this tandem 17 years, and other than maintenance we haven't upgraded anything in nearly 20,000 miles. Now that we are in our 50's we are both beginning to favor a more upright position so seeing your stem was a revelation.

Here is the new stem from Tandems East shown above our old stem.

BTW Nice Rodriguez you have, Rodriguez is on our short list for a new tandem this fall.

I just replaced the front brakes on my Sovereign with XTR, since I couldn't seem to make the old ones stop squealing no matter what I tried. It worked. Ahhh... wonderful silence...

Since I just bought a used tandem, we have riden it one short ride. I have a new set of tires coming in this week, just picked up two new seats, got a new trip computer, and am trying to figure out where to buy some new bolts to replace some older ones that have some rust.

It is a Minoura SBH-300 double cage mount that is meant to go behind the saddle. I used a Bontrager handlebar bottle cage clamp to attach it to the stoker stem. The corners of the clamp have to be rounded off with a file so that it will fit under the mount. I drilled holes in the mount to line up with the threaded holes in the clamp.

K-Edge chain catcher. They have a triple model that is not advertised on their website yet, just send them a note.

Oval Concepts R910 handlebars, with an integrated aerobar setup.

https://www.ovalconcepts.com/products...ere=11&idCat=2

The setup will aow us to lower the Captain's TT position due to the below the handbar aerobars extensions), and make it really easy to take the aerobar extensions on and off.

Just got a lightly used Fizik Aliante from eBay. I have them on most of my half-bikes, and I've been noticing that the stock saddle on the Santana was getting uncomfortable after a couple of hours these days.

XTR M971 rear derailer to make the bike a little blacker.

Fiber Fix spoke for the saddle bag

Jagwire RZ disc brake pads, seem to improve braking over metal pads

Parts to convert Avid mtn caliper(black) to a road caliper, also bought a can of spray paint to paint a road caliper black. Can not seem to make up my mind if I want to spend time or money.

Installing the rear derailer I realized the rear tire was worn and replaced the Continental Grand Prix 4000 (28) with same. I have been using the GP4000 from day ! on the bike and am very happy performance, wear and flat resistance. (which means I will get a flat this weekend)

At the start of the year I bought a set of Campag Centaur Ergopower 10-speed levers (in the gun-metal color from Ebay for just over $100). These replace the previous ancient Campag "sharkfin" 8-speed levers. I had been running a Shimano 8-speed cassette with Campag spacers, but this has beenreplaced with a Shimano 9-speed cassette with a more regular shift-spacing (12-13-15-17-19-21-23-25-28) which I am very happy with, and the old Campag Record derailleur has been replaced with an old Ultegra. According to a cyclo-cross website, Campag 10 pulls the same amount as Shimano 9, and by attaching the cable to the rear derailleur with a 90-degree change, the setup works perfectly. And it does! Except I've got an extra click at the 12-tooth end. I think 9-speed is the optimal for shifting range and strength; I am very dubious of the ability of 10-speed chains to survive tandem loads (I know trackies who can break 10-speed chains at will...).

Looking back at previous photos of the vintage (now 30-year-old) Kuwahara tandem, it's funny how I can tell the year the photo was taken just by what's on the bike.

Anyone ever break a 10sp chain on a tandem? We never have.

The ultimate tandem accessory!

With Stow-n-go seats, I can go from family hauler to mobile recumbent tandem garage in about 5 minutes. Wth the flexible seating arangement, I gan get two tandems and four people in this van.

Does the old Clydesdale refer to the Cannondale or the Captain?

I just ordered some longer shifter cable housing. I run bar end shifters on my tandem and I am going to run the derailure cables on the inside of the bar tape. I have done this with my two single bikes and I really like the cleaner look. Shifting is not affected by this routing, give it a try. I will post a picture when I get it done. I have attatched a couple of pics of my single bikes to show the cable routing.

Yep, at the Bass Lake Power House Double in 2008. We had to piece the chain together using a 9 speed pin. Had to ride the last 110 miles with only 3 gears.

Bought a left triple ultegra shifter based on some advice on this forum to separate the brakes that were hooked up to just the right lever. Probably should have followed all of the advice and just purchased a brake lever because I'm not a real big fan of the sti shifter as it's not that smooth and I liked being able to quickly adjust the derailleur position a small amount with the bar end shifter.

Quite a spending spree for a relatively inexpensive tandem but I bought...

A 2003 Mazda Protegè5. Fun little car for whipping around DC traffic and it's a manual transmission so I get a good workout in my clutch foot too.

Then we needed a roof rack. My dad was nice enough to give me his Yakima rack if I'd buy the correct clips for it. With my REI credit the clips were less than $50.

Finally, I needed a tandem rail. I found a killer deal on a Yakima tandem rail with the boom tube support but decided I didn't care as much for that design. I paid a little more and picked up this Rocky Mounts Tandem Rail and it seems to work quite well.

B.O.B. Santana yoke. Tested out riding from Fresno to Capitola and then back. First time I've had the opportunity to do an unsupported ride like this. Whew!
