What I love about riding a tandem?

Yesterday I was riding with my 8 year old daughter on our Tsunami tandem and she said something that really made an impression on me. While riding she said "I like to close my eyes when we ride". In her own way she was telling me she trusts me totally. It made me smile. I love riding our tandem.
You've got to savor those moments.

Priceless! I'm hoping to get my 7 y/o grandson on the back of our tandem soon. Would like to avoid a kid stoker kit, but the daVinci makes it easy to add one.

Hugely sweet. Treasure it. Tell her how it made you feel.

4 years older, my daughter and I cracked the distance and speed family record, 48 miles and 48 mph. "It was fast and I was wondering whether we'd be ok, but I know you'd judge it" Awwwww

( but, 4 years older than that, 16 yo on the back of the Ducati motorcycle - "Is that as fast as it'll go??"

Be careful of what you wish for!

My fiance/stoker rode home from work yesterday on our singles. 40 mile ride with about 2000' of climbing (up and over the Oakland Hills). She did great but doesn't ride as much as I do. By mile 30 (in the dark and cold) she was lagging behind at 12 mph. Put her on the back of the da Vinci, she's right there and we're cruising on flats at 23! :-) Yeah, that's one of the reasons I love riding the tandem. That and being there wih my sweetie!

My stoker is vision impaired so the "closing of the eyes" example is very similar to our experience every time we ride.
He has told me he trusts my judgement and feels safe with me. We've had some close shaves, as all do, but when I inform him of any problem he simply knows not to panic and to trust me. This is a very humbling life experience and responsibility for me and one I treasure deeply and take very seriously, but it's still HEAPS OF FUN.

I love it when my beautiful wife stokes too, hope to do some tours in the future......but what's with the cheeky bum pinching?

My wife said something similar but I think it is only out of fear that she closes her eyes!!

While riding on a tandem I get a feeling similar to what it must be like in crew (i.e. as in rowing together on a boat in water). You are part of a crew.
