It was a year ago March 16th, 2 weeks before his 6th birthday that my precious grandson Tyler was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, a deadly chilhood cancer. After a 7.5 hour surgery on March 19th, they removed the tumor he called "the abomination" and his right kidney. He then began 9 months of grueling chemo.
In early August I bought a Lambo tandem. On late August I took him on our maiden ride on "Jazz" the name he gave the "big bike." That ride is memorialized in the attached picture.
He spent all of September in Miami Children's Hospital having a bone marrow transplant. It took most of October for him to recover, and in November he started a new protocol to prevent recurrence. Right after Christmas he suffered a reaction to the treatments and spent New Years and the next 2 months in Chris Everett Children's Hospital.
It is now just over a year later. We had a huge 7th Birthday/Remission party on March 27, and just this past March 30th we went out again, this time for 10 miles! We visited several local parks, had a picnic, and stopped by Daddy's work to surprise him and say "h.i." See the trip report here:
