choosing a tandem

my wife and I are very recreational riders (the type without the helmets if you know what I mean). This season we realized that I can't keep up with her any more, and we are considering a tandem as a solution. Looking at a few options available locally on Kijiji. All within $450-$600 range. Please advice if you think we need to eliminate certain options or if any are clearly better than others. Many thanks!

KHS Tandemania Sport, 2009/2010, upgraded rear wheel, $600

Univega (model and year unknown), comes WITHOUT the seats, $600 (so basically $700 if factor in two new seats that need to be purchased separately)

Genesis Reflection 6 speed, $450

1995 Iron Horse, model Amigo, $450 - looks like this one is more mountain rather than road, and we don't do mountains.

Thank you for your time!

EDIT: we mostly ride paved, flat trails. 15-20 miles would probably be the absolute maximum we'd cover in a single trip.

Pictures or links are very desirable for opinions.

We don't know what type of riders you are, we do that you are not concerned about brain damage....

You need to tell us where you are riding, type of terrain, surface (gravel, paved, ..._).

We like our '94 Trek T50, we do not attempt serious grades, my wife has a severe aversion to grades. We ride on pavement, typically 5 to 20 miles at a time. I am a much stronger and faster rider, due to often commuting by bicycle. Our T50 has had many upgrades over the years since we purchased it used. It is a flat bar bike, with 3x9 gears, Shimano Deore XT FD with 54-44-26 rings, and SRAM X.9 with a 11-34 cassette. Hubs are 48H Wheelmaster, Wheelsmith DB14 spokes, Veolicty NoBS rims, Schwalbe 37-622 tires, Avid SDV brakes.

KHS is a better known/built brand and not at a bad price!
Save yourselves a headache (or worse) and get a helmet while you're at it.

Yeesh, enough with the concern trolling! You're really making U.S. Americans look like a bunch of finger wagging ninnys.

It's obvious the OP is in Russia. Unless you have experience with bicycling in that country, or even in his town specifically, you might as well fly over to Amsterdam, stand on the corner and yell "waar is je een helm?" at every one who rides by.

Thank you everyone who responded so far, we are still working on it. The price for Univega has gone down to $550 (from $600) - anyone heard of this brand at all?

Will probably stop by to take a look at a KHS next weekend, it's 1h30m away from home, so a bit of a trip. There is another KHS, this one is at $500, but without an upgraded rear wheel, also 1h30m away from home but in a different, less scenic direction, not planning to go see it, but it may serve as bargaining leverage to negotiate lower price for the one with an upgraded rear wheel (they want $600).

Also, I appreciate everyone's concern over potential brain damage, but I am reckless enough to ride motorcycles without a helmet (where permitted of course). As they say, riding without a helmet is dangerous and irresponsible, but those who never done it don't know what they're missing

univega is a well known mid level depending on the year IMO

but I would still opt for the newer KHS if it were my Benjamin's

I found a ~2006 KHS Milano on eBay in terrific condition with upgraded brakes and shifters and have taken her for a couple of short rides with my daughter, we're both enjoying it very much.
