Eh. OK, but not amazing. John Slawta at Landshark does the only paint jobs that I would call "amazing"

ok ok, how about "cool" paint job?

landshark's are polarizing in a pegoretti sorta way....love 'em or hate 'em. both unique, no doubt.

scroll through some of the other spectrum powderworks paint jobs for some delicious eye candy.

Not everything he does is my cup of tea; but even if I don't like a particular paint job, he certainly puts a lot into them.

Land Shark is John Slawta's brand for his bicycle frame building business.
More on the history here: http://www.landsharkbicycles.com/about.html

The first time his brand came to my attention is when he built the frames for the L.A. Sheriff / Chevrolet pro cycling team used in the Redlands Classic back in 1989 or 1990 before they switched to Litespeed. I've lusted after, but never acquired one just to hang on the wall. I just haven't found the right paint job on a frame in my size... and they're all a bit different. He's also built a few tandems.

What do you suppose that paint job is worth? Anybody? Just wondering.

the tiemeyer? likely not inexpensive. you get what you pay for.

good lordy they do spectacular things with powder (and liquid paint)...

so many fine examples on that website. the de salvo's, the moots's, etc. etc.

i was going to have spectrum do some stuff on another bike, but ended up doing something much simpler (less expensive) and from someone else (the actual builder).

however, i would love to someday hand over an unfinished custom frame, give some general guidelines and then say, "have at it."

That's our bike. Glad you like it. Just getting finished with building it up. We are taking it on a Santana trip from Strasburg to Amsterdam on July 2. I will try and get pictures done this weekend in the sunshine. Both the green (citrus metallic green) and the black(black otter metallic) have some sparkle in the sunlight that is not captured in the photo Paul took. We should also be riding it at the MATES tandem rally and the Santana Sonoma tandem trip in Sept. Say hello if you see us.

Cheers
Ian

jnbrown: check out this little piece of history i had the distinct pleasure of hanging onto (albeit temporarily...)

it's mr. hampsten's tour de france frame itself! on loan from serotta, it was in connection with a celebration of the tour de france we did at our store. we did a window display with the frame, worked with a local bike shop (signature cycles) to do a charity ride & raffle, raised some money for a very worthy organization (http://ichallengemyself.org/HOME.asp) and donated a special bike for their use. to say i was nervous about handling this frame is an understatement!!! boy, if paint chips could talk...imagine the stories of climbing alpe d' huez!

Wow, so that's the Serotta they were talking about that broke during a race which is why Andy chose to ride a Land Shark instead. It's funny how they both look so much alike including the paint job and Huffy name.
BTW many years ago we rode a few times with a couple that had a Land Shark tandem.
I also remember a number of top local riders using them.

I wonder what the model was. I broke a couple of Nova Special X frames of that era, and I doubt I was dishing out anywhere near the abuse of Andy.

not sure. i understand that they were all custom rigs for various people of that 7-eleven era.

regardless, it was a unique piece of bike history, that's for sure!

and more importantly, its display generated lots of interest & events, which helped fund a really terrific cause.

That is pretty nice must be a dedicated rider to pay for a custom job like that. I love the fireball design on the first bike.
