New Tandem

My wife and I decided to do some tandem riding, so we bought a new Trek T900. If she takes to the tandem, then I'll
consider a Cannondale or Co-Motion Scout later on. For now, the Trek is all we need. This is my second tandem as I owned
a Burley 20+ years ago .... Regards, Tom

Here's a few pics of the bike and the car and truck racks I made for it.

The only changes so far are better saddles, and Conti Sport Contact tires

For the BMW's tandem rack I opted to use one of my existing Yakima fork mounts / tray's as seen below. By reversing the fork,
2" of overhang was saved, and by removing the rear wheel ... height, weight and length ( now 67") were reduced making a
standard length tray more than adequate for the task.... Plus, the trunk can be opened fully.

The bike rests on a dense foam block under the front bottom bracket, and a section of Yakima tray attached to a foam block
further aft. With 3 contact points, the rack is even more stable than my single bikes attached at the forks and rear wheel.
In addition, the front pedal is secured to the rear Thule crossbar for greater stability. The frame is easily loaded on the rack
single-handed.

The main tray is reinforced with a 1.5" aluminum tube bolted on for strength and rigidity. The small rear tray is covered in plastic
tape and was left over from making a motorcycle / bicycle rack . The rear foam block is actually a cut down kayak carrier. Total
cost to convert the Yakima bike rack for tandem use was about $10.00. http://www.yostwerks.com/T900Rack3.jpg

The inspiration for this simple tandem rack were the racks I made several months ago for my motorcycles. I've ridden 2,000 miles
with this motorcycle setup, and have encountered no issues what so ever.

Congrats on the purchase. Looks like you have some beautiful riding there.

Great idea on the racks. I've often wished I could bring my bicycle with me on a motorcycle trip. Have fun!

Nice looking bike; good job on the racks.

Now I want to see the tandem mounted on the Triumph!

Now I want to see the tandem mounted on the Triumph!
Unlikely due to the tandem's length and weight... though if it were a take-apart it might be possible.

Besides, I already carry a tandem of sorts ... Homebuilt folding double kayak on the Triumph .

Here's another tandem setup ... two pair of Nordic skis at Breckenridge, Colorado. Heated grips and handlebar muffs are
mandatory cold weather kit :p
