New to the tandem-thing...Rolly Polly-Ruffy Tuffy's?

Just purchased a nice older tandem and it needs new shoes...I've got some Rolly Polly's and Ruffy Tuffy's here that I've been wanting to use on something...I had intended to use them on a nice old McLean that I have but I'm going to sell that frame and fork soon and now I've got tires I don't need...sort of thought about putting the Rolly on the front and the Tuffy on the back, any thoughts about doing this? I'm about 185 and my stoker is about (don't tell her I told this here!) is about 140 OR SO!...so......?

Never heard of either tire before so I Googled them. There is a link to a forum question on this if you google Rolly Polly instead of Ruffy Tuffy. I think it even covers mixing the two on one bike.

I've been eyeing the Rolly Polly's too. Haven't tried them yet though, so will be monitoring this thread. They sound like great, low rolling resistance rides. Not cheap, but hey... We've been using Conti gatorskins forever and they are just fine, but always on the lookout for the next great tire. Our team is very similar in weight. Please post your decision and then your experience.

I'll get a chance to ride them this weekend but I can tell you this from past experience on a half bike, I put them on an old Mercian I use for neighborhood rides and really like them! The first 2-300 yards of roadway around here is VERY choppy feeling on 23's, like a little bitty washboard and every dip/bump is almost wrist-breaking in it's sharpness....I switched to the afore mentioned combination and it's ALMOST like butter compared to the 23's and the higher inflation numbers. I tried running 90 lbs. in my Vittoria's and even that didn't help much, but the same inflation in the 27's (actually closer to 28, maybe even 29's) is REALLY a pleasant feeling...cornering is nice, too. Plus I'm sorta old fashioned I guess because I really like the gum wall look. I'm sold on them for what I've been using them for and now we'll see about how they are on the tandem...I'm looking to get my wife riding some and I KNOW she'll be interested in a "comfort first" experience!

Put Soma tires on my new 650b half bike. They are nice.
They only show 700c and 26" tires on their website.
May get 26" Somas for my tandem.
