schwinn Twinn with a weird feeling

Hi folks,
I have a question. I bought a Twinn sport in an effort to get the wife out riding more but everytime we get on it , we comment on how tall it feels. Much taller then our singles. Is this because of the bottom brackets being higher and, are all tandems like this?

If the bottom brackets are further off the ground and you have your seat height set correctly from the pedal then yes you are sitting further off the ground.
Whether it is tandem specific I've never compared mine to my singles but any difference can't be very big to experience what you say.

I Googled "Schwinn Twin" and found images of several completely different bikes. Because of that, I don't know what your bike looks like, and I can't take a swing at answering your question.

If you post a picture, I'll give it a try, and I bet others will, too.

So lower the seatpost/saddle to suit you two.

The picture helped me understand your bike, but unfortunately it didn't help me understand why it feels taller!

I guess that I would break out the tape measure. If the seats and handlebars are about the same as your solo bike, I guess it's just a matter of perception. Maybe there is something about the geometry that is giving you an optical or balance illusion?

Even a light-weight tandem weighs a lot more than a solo bike, simply because there are two people on board. Maybe that extra weight makes your tandem feel top-heavy, compared to your solo bike, which makes it feel tall?

Tandems do feel different than solo bikes, but I sure like to ride with my wife, and when we're both on fire, our tandem really moves! It's a lot of fun to work together to make it fly!

Check the crank length. If the crank arms are shorter you will have raised the saddle(s) to obtain the same maximum leg extension. Also if the pedals are thicker.

Looking at your picture, the bottom brackets appear higher than normal. They're as high as the wheel hubs or maybe a little higher. Our tandem and road bike singles' BBs are lower than the hubs, making the rider sit down into the bike more. Of course, you can measure from the floor to the BB of your road bike and the tandem to know for sure.

Take a tape measure.
Measure the height of the saddles from the ground of the tandem and your other bikes.
compare
