Looking for some input. Traveling to Vegas for business but hoping to sneak in time for a 2 to 3 hour ride or 2. Can anyone suggest a place to rent a bike (most likely just a single this time). I am staying in the middle of the strip, but dont think that sounds conducive to a safe ride. So maybe something on the outside where I can focus on the ride and enjoying scenery without having tourists gawking and running me over. thanks for the help. Clint

We don't live there but have ridden there once. There is a ride west of the city called "Red Rock" I believe. It is a loop ride through a scenic area. Popular with cyclists. Maybe locals can give more details.

I just recently returned from Las Vegas, and rented a bike there from Las Vegas Cycelry, on W. Charleston. They rent Cannondale CAAD9's, and have a pretty good selection of sizes. They provide a flat kit, and SPD pedals if you have shoes with SPD cleats. Otherwise, you need to take your own pedals. The bikes have 2 bottle cages. They can also provide a helmet, but I took my own.

From their shop it is about 10 miles to the entrance of the Red Rock Canyon Scenic loop. It is a pretty steady 2% grade for an elevation increase of about 1100 ft in the 10 miles. The Scenic loop is about 13 miles, the first 5 miles is a pretty steady 6 to 7% uphill grade, for another 1200 ft or so climb. From that point, it is a pretty steady 1 to 2% downhill back into Vegas. I rented the bike for 24 hours, and took it back to the hotel over night. I rode on the strip to get back to the hotel, and walked the bike through the Casino up to the room That ride ended up being about 50 miles.

If you did the ride to Red Rock, the scenic loop and back to Las Vegas Cyclery, it would probably be about 35 to 40 miles.

There are other shops, but I was happy with Las Vegas Cyclery.

I like McGhies. They deliver to some hotels. (At the Red Rock resort I called ahead and the bike was waiting for me at the Bell Stand.) And they have a choice of several higher end bikes.

Plus One on the Red Rock Loop. Once you're out of Vegas, there is little traffic and the scenery is good. Once you do the loop you can continue onto to Parumph if you want a longer ride.

Another possibility is Mount Charleston, but the weather may not be suitable for that this time of year.

Thanks for the input. We will be picking up bikes at Mcghies and riding the red rock scenic route next wednesday. I said we (traveling with by boss) and we dont want to tandem together. Although it would be fun to get him in the stoker seat and stand up and crack a couple of for him...thanks again for the input.

Awesome ride! Rented from Las Vegas Cyclery and did the Red Rock Loop. About 34 miles round trip. Awesome scenery. Was definately more fun on the way back (all down hill)

Hi, could I ask why you decided against Mcghies and went with Las Vegas Cyclery? I'm heading to vegas from New Zealand in early September and plan on doing the red rock Loop. Thanks.

Las Vegas Cyclery was the only shop that had 3 bikes in the sizes we needed. So rather than taxi to multiple locations we just went there. It worked out great. There is a bike lane from their store all the way to red rock canyon. I would suggest reserving bikes in the proper sizes way in advance.

Sounds great, I've already got in touch with Mcghies but will definately give las vegas Cyclery a call. The cycle lane appeals, seeig as I'm going to have to come to grips with riding on the 'wrong' side of the road (: Thanks for the info.
