Computer for stoker?

Computer for stoker?
I have a wireless computer on our tandem for me, the captain, but want to set up something for my wife. We currently use an old Garmin eTrex, which is bulky and battery-hungry. It seems like her handlebars are too far from the wheel to pick up a wireless signal, and I'm not wild about a hard wired one but I've considered that route. I'm reluctant to spend the $$ on a Garmin cyclocomputer, I'm wondering what other folks do.

Cateye V3
I bought 2 Cateye V3s. Put the cadence/speed sensor on the left rear chainstay. You sync each computer and heartrate monitor individually to the one sensor by putting one computer in a different part of your house while you sync the first computer and do the same for the second computer. The wireless signal reaches from the sensor on the rear chain stay to the computers mounted on the stokers and captains handlebars and both heart rate monitors work with each individual computer. I have had this set up for 2 years without any problems. My wife's mileage is exactly the same as my mileage.

We use two Cateye V2C's with one wireless speed /cadence sensor on the left chainstay. They are absolutely dead reliable with no interference issues of any kind....good battery life as well.

My stoker uses a Planet Bike Protege 9.0, wired. Simple, no buttons, tons of information and the unit is guaranteed for life!

We ended up getting an Edge 500, on sale at REI for $199. Using my $174 rebate, I'm only out $25. I have a Sigma up front for me, and switch the Garmin to my solo bike when I need it. So far, we love it. My stoker is happy = I'm happy.

Some things a stoker is better off not knowing. Descending at 60 mph plus works better without a computer for the stoker.

I have the Bontrager Node 2 on my single bike and like it very much. I will purchase another Node 2 for my new tandem for stoker use.

Chief differences from the Edge 500 appear to be elimination of the thermometer (sorry to lose that) and inability to receive power data from ANT+ devices (not a problem for us).
Anyone notice any other differences of note?

Many of the mid-evel wireless computers are now ANT+ which has a range of over 1m. We run 2 Sigma's (2209 and 1609) off a front wheel sensor. Works fine.
