2011 Solvang Double Century (aka The Rain Festival)

A tough rainy day on our beautiful (now very muddy) Pinarello Tandem. My beautiful stoker kept me motivated all day long.

It has been dry as a bone here east of Rockies. I've been watching California weather. It looks like it has been abnormally wet there for quite some time - correct? The reason I ask is that we're thinking of a vacation there in a few months. It seems like these weather systems persist for quite a while. I don't see any break in our dry spell. Does it look like your wet spell might end soon?

Mostly likely it will be dry and hot a couple of months from now. That's the usual pattern out here. Having said that, I'm not a weatherman, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Were you guys on White Mountain Double last year?

There was a Pinarello Tandem there, and they are relatively rare to see.

Yup! That was us.....trying to suck in some much needed O2 at 10,000 ft.

How did the ride go for you?

Are either of you guys doing Davis or the Central Coast Double? I should have done Solvang because the weather was how it usually is when I've ridden it in the past. I would have felt right at home.

We're going to try to do at least one of those. Most likely Davis, but have to wait and see what our May work schedules turn out to be.

WE have to say" a tip of the Martin hat" to you both, we cannot imagine that many miles in a day, a rainy and cold day to boot, of course you are probably younger that our kids but your Garmin stats are impressive, keep up the good work

We might do Davis.

However, our first 2011 double should be Devil Mountain Double (as long as my wife gets the day off)!

Our tentative doubles plan is

- DMD
- (Maybe Davis)
- Terrible Two
- Mt Tam
- White Mountain

Then Everest Challenge in late Sept.

Jaguar & Sweets,

It went pretty well. We had a pretty poor year, just not that much riding. So White Mountain was our attempt to get in shape for Everest Challenge (our 2nd time). I liked the route, and we finished in a fairly decent time:

I remember seeing the both of you at the start on the white tandem (if memory serves). You crushed us! I wish we'd gotten through the ride that quick. It was my stokers 3rd double and her first year finishing the Cal Triple Crown.

We'll look for ya in the future!

Best to ya both!

Thanks! I will pass that along to her. She's pretty proud of her accomplishment, and SO AM I !!

We're over in the East Bay. Walnut Creek.

We usually ride with the Diablo Cyclists. Longer ride is usually Saturday morning at 9:00.

Come on over anytime.

We used to ride with them when we were in Livermore, good group.

Tell them Chris and Tracey say hi, some of the old-timers may remember us.

Many thanks!!

We're really enjoying the bike. It's 10 lbs. lighter than our old Cannondale RT3000.
