Might buy my first tandem tonight
looking at my first tandem tonight, a twin peaks, 450$.
Not sure why I even want a tandem, but it looks like fun and one heck of a deal.
Is it OK to test ride this solo?

What you can learn from test riding solo is whether the gears all work, and whether the brakes work, and things like that. Pretty much how well it fits (you).
What it really feels like (handling) is entirely a different matter.

Perhaps too late, but... a tandem feels really weird solo. Every once in a while, I'll ride our tandem solo to get my wife, and it's hard to keep it from wobbling. It might just be that I'm used to the extra weight back there with two people and it feels foreign without it.

bought it, snowing out today, will get a stoker recruited for the weekend.
New bontrager H2 tires and had been to the LBS prior to sale, brakes in good shape and one new rim, though not a high end one. Shimano casset has seen some action but looks reasonable.

Dang, I was going to buy it and you were the guy who beat me to it. I was waiting until tonight to go and check it out so I could bring my daughter with me -- oh well, you snooze, you lose.
Congrats.
EDIT: and if you happen to decide to sell it, I'd be glad to take it off your hands.

Don't know where you live in the front range, but I could certainly let it out of the barn if someone wanted to borrow it for a weekend to test out a tandem. Kinda why I bought it, could not find one to borrow.
Chain was on when I picked it up and the gears seem fine, it fell of riding home in the truck, the bike was on it's side. Have not put it back on yet.

That's nice of you to offer (I just updated my profile; I live just south of you in Longmont). It is a really nice bike, I should have jumped on it the other day.
