New to the tandem world

My wife and I bought our first tandem this summer. Trek T1000. It took me a year to talk her into buying a tandem. We have had a lot of fun riding the tandem together.

Welcome! My wife and I got ours last month, a Cannondale. My wife admits to not having been sure whether she'd like it when we bought it, but now really loves it.

Welcome aboard. We got our T50 in the spring. My wife has balance issues, and can't ride a single. She enjoys the tandem, and we get to spend time together

Agreed, welcome to the forums. Anyone new to tandems should critically focus on getting their stoker "fit" properly and comfortable. The stoker need not use drop bars or bullhorns. A Nitto Albatross or similar dime a dozen bar gets a stoker up and comfy. A Thudbuster ST, or budget version of a suspension seatpost goes a long way to achieving stoker comfort. Where a stoker isn't already a cyclist, they are depending on the cyclist to communicate things they might not know (why lycra prevents chafing on the saddle, why soft saddles may not be best, explaining cockpit fit, etc.).

Communication on a tandem, as in the relationship is key. Which is why I'm the worst husband/captain, ever!

You know, I've always thought that as tandem owners we probably have an obligation of sorts to offer local rides for blind people that would love to "ride a bike." I realized that when a family friend of an ex bought a tandem so he could ride with his wife, who was blind.

Maybe some kind of national Bike rides for the Blind organization. Thoughts?

Indiana Tandem:
Welcome to the world of riding TWOgether!
Loads of information on tandem riding on this forum . . . great reading on a rainy/snowy day when it's too nasty to pedal.
Have actually done some touring in Indiana and ridden the Major Taylor Velodrome on our 2-seater years ago.
Been riding as a duo since 1975 and are now on our fifth twicer. It's still fun!

Welcome!

We have a trek T2000, which has the same frame and have really enjoyed it. I'm sure you will too!

Central Indiana Bicycling Association supports rides on weekends and otherwise. Common to see tandems on those rides. Hoosiers Out on Tandems (HOOTS) information can be accessed from the CIBA website: cibaride.org. HOOTS supports a number of dedicated tandem rides from Spring through Fall.

We intended to do some HOOTS rides this year but because of stoker's every-other-weekend work schedule and unpredictable weather, that didn't work out. But, we did ride the tandem on a number of CIBA rides and one day of the Hilly Hundred. Quite a few tandems on the Hilly.

Welcome Indiana Tandem to the forum! My wife and I purchased our first tandem this past summer and we are in love with riding TwoGether. We have learned a lot from just browsing through all the posts here, but also leaned a lot from asking questions. The members here are very friendly, knowledgeable, and kind to beginners!
