Buying a Tandem for my boyfriend

I am buying a tandem for my boyfriend's bday. Just to go on casual rides. he is about 6'2" and 250lbs. I'm 5'4" and am 130lbs. Looking at a Kulana Lua 26" on ebay. Is this big enough for him? I do not want to spend alot of money...just want something fun and easy

Walmart also sells the Kulana Lua, and when I checked they had 129 reviews of the bike. That should give you a good idea about what buyers think of that bike!

About the fifth review down indicates that the captain is 6'2", so that review might be especially helpful for you.

Have fun!

I'm about 6'-2. Most "One-size-fits-all" bikes are either going to be completely or marginally too small.

Here locally, there's a big bike shop that rents tandems, and that'd be a good way to find out how you like it.

Don't buy tandem without boyfriend being along and testing for proper fit.
Would you buy him a pair of new shoes on-line and hope they fit?

A gift is made better by the surprise, so if that's part of it, be that as it may.

I normally never suggest buying a bike for someone without them test riding unless you've got a big stack of measurements from a current bike they ride and love. At the same time, that tandem looks like an occasional, low-speed cruiser. Even if the fit isn't superb it might be ok.

I'm 6'5" and my stoker is 5'5". We had a hard time finding a bike that fit us both. We bought used, and it's a bit too small. Hasn't stopped us from riding centuries though!

Have fun.

With your size differences checkout the CoMotion Periscope models.
Have fit a 6'3" guy with a 5'2" gal easily.

Recommend take a few pictures and put them inside a bday card along with a gift card. If the pix spark him up, them the two of you can go shopping together....

I agree with ksisler. I also think that you'll find the Kulana Lau a bit small for him-kinda like stuffing him in a mini cooper sort of way! If his interests are peaked with the pictures in the bday card, shop around for a used one that will fit better and could have better components on it as well. Good luck, and pass our birthday wishes along to the birthday boy too!

I'm guessing the birthday is long past, given the original date of the thread...

A good solution except she doesn't want to spend a lot of money.
