We finally bought it!
We made the trek to Denver over the past weekend to visit Tandem Cycle Works and try a few tandems on for size. Pat Gibbons and Lynn Dexter are two extremely nice and very knowledgeable people and they were instrumental in helping us make the final choice.
I had set my sights originally on a Speedster with a long list of upgrades. By the time we added up all of the goodies, we were dangerously close to the cost of a Supremo. So dangerous in fact that, after making a few handlebar and stem changes to a size medium, the deal was done.
We are the proud expecting owners of a Ferrrari red Suprema with delivery expected in about 4 weeks. I can hardly wait. This is going to be one sweet ride!
I'll provide updates after the initial shakedown cruise (probably 1 hour after the FedEx man arrives)!
Rgds,
Steff

Supremo... An excellent choice, for a cigar OR a tandem named after one. Seriously, the component package that Co-Motion offers on its go-fast tandems is just about unparalleled.
Which wheelset did you go with?
Did you happen to go whole-hog, throw caution to the wind and spec. it with Campy 10spd?
Any other interesting details to share?
Did you just ride the Co-Motions or did you try a few other brands? If so, your impressions?
Congrats. It'll be a sweet ride that many will covet.

No, the 10 speed Campy package will have to go to another couple. The upgrade from Speedster to Supremo was enough to dent the wallet for some time to come. I think Co-Motion wants another $600.00 for the upgrade and I have to say that the Dura-Ace components were about as smooth as I could ever expect or want. So while I did jump to the next level, I didn't go whole-hog. I guess if I ever get the bug, the upgrade could be done by simply changing out the derailleurs, the front brake, the shifters/brake hoods and the cluster. Not a minor change, but easy to do nevertheless.
The 2004 Supremo comes with Dura Ace derailleurs and brake set, Chris King headset, carbon-wound fork, carbon seat posts, carbon FSA cranks (I spec'd 55/42/30), Rolf wheels w/ Chris King hubs, an Avid Mechanical Disc and all weighing in between 28 and 29 lbs. My wife commented that she thought it was lighter that her road single! We added the wireless Shimano Flight Deck just to top it off.
I can't wait for the completion day. Co-Motion says mid-December. Just in time for the real cold weather to start! No matter. We will bundle up for chance to stretch this machine's legs!
As for other tandems, I read many reviews and we rode a few other tandems (Co-Motion Capuccino and Mocha) at other locations. I was really sold on the forgiving feel of the Chro-Moly steel frame and, for the money, Co-Motion seems to spec their entire line with a very nice set of components. They really seem to use materials that they KNOW will work well, and not just the latest and (supposedly) greatest whizz-bang component that comes along. I was sold on Co-Motion from the beginning.
I will post some pics as soon as it arrives!

Congratulations on your CoMotion purchase! We got our Speedster about 2 months ago and have really been enjoying it. Sounds like you got one with some really nice components. We attended the Southern Tandem Rally in Tallahassee 2 weeks ago and were very pleased with the performance of our Speedster. I am sure you will be pleased with yours.

Being sold on a Co-Motion is a good thing cause I can't think of any bad things that can be said about Co-Motion; seriously.
Look forward to hearing about your maiden journey(s).

Well my husband & I bought our new Co-Motion Speedster a few days ago, here's a picture. Neither of us had ever ridden a tandem before and no amount of reading could have prepared us for that first 1/2 hr. We wobbled and weaved down our street and scared the dickens out of ourselves. It took everything I had not to scream and try to jump off. After some practice in a parking lot we calmed down and did much better. I'm sure if someone had a video camera, they would have won first place on America's Funniest Home Video's, we must have been a sight! We ended up doing a 32 mile ride and by the time we got back home we almost felt like old pros. My husband said the hardest part was stopping and holding up the bike, that will take some practice to get better. I was real proud of him, he didn't drop the bike once. Now we can't wait until the next time we can ride it.
