Borrow or rent (Cheep) a tandem for a 3 day ride from Portsmouth NH to Maine

Going w/ my wife to my fathers 55th Bowdoin reunion. Dad & I did the ride 5 years ago w/ his classmates -- he has since died but it was one of the most fun final things we did together. After Memorial Day.

Are you soliciting a loaner or rental tandem?

Not being familiar with the area at all, or Bowdoin, I had to do a bit of Googling to find that Bowdoin College is in Brunswick, Maine, about 80 miles up the coast. Are you taking 3 days to ride the 80 miles, or up one day, spend a day, and back the third day?

One of the larger local bike shops here rents tandems.

If it's sufficiently flat, and if you're both of average size, you can spend $100 or $200 for an old cruiser-type tandem and make the trip okay.

And, maybe it's just me, but going to your dad's reunion seems a bit odd.

Thanks

I am soliciting a loan or cheep rental. Actually I'm really going for the ride which we did together 5 years ago w/ the same group. Its a 3 day ride but I'd like a decent tandum as my wife is a bit fussey...It would probably cost to much for me to ship from texas which is I think where you are. I hope to bring the tandum in at arround 200-300 all in.

We have an older Burley Duet set up townie style I'd be willing to talk about loaning out for a bit of cash. What sizes are y'all hoping for...? Located in Berwick ME, but I work in Portsmouth NH. Details available on request.

Point of interest: the Memorial Bridge from Portsmouth NH to Kittery ME is being demolished; the Sarah Mildred Long bridge is posted "No bicycles" even though plenty of people are now using it for such; and I really doubt the shuttle vans can accommodate a tandem. Otherwise, you'd be detouring up through Dover NH from Portsmouth just to get into ME. I'd be happy to arrange delivery to either Portsmouth or Kittery.

Sorry for the delay. Wasn't sure this was going to work out but now it is - resorted to consulting as couldn't get a full time job. So my wife is 5"2" & I'm 5'8". I normally ride a 53 cm road bike but we are not that fussey & its only a 3 day ride w/ some 75 year olds. got the news about the bridge so Kittery & that is where we are starting from. regarding price i'd like it as cheep as possible but not more than $100. Does that seem appropriate? Obiviously any damages we would cover -but as experienced tandem rides I am not woried & I did this route 5 years ago. If you want to talk direct sec8ataol.com

Glad it worked out! Despite a day of rain, looks like you really dodged the bullet, weather-wise...
