Revolights lighting

FYI. I thought that I'd found something new, but it's already showed up on some threads in other sections of Bike Forums. Interesting concept. Anyway, here's the lighting product: http://revolights.com/ . At $250, they're not cheap. And if I did my calculation-conversion right, they'll come in at 46.56 grams/wheel. The site says that it's incompatible with deep V rims.

I don't see much forward or rearward projection of light, so they certainly won't replace headlights and taillights. The video is mostly shot from the side, where the cars aren't going to hit you from (unless you are stopped broadside in an intersection blocking cars that have the right of way....)

This is really a re-hash of the reflective tire sidewall controversy ---> flame war, just with a lot more money at stake.

The title box on the Revolights web page:

As Kent was riding home one night, he wondered why his bike’s headlight, meant to illuminate the road ahead of him, was mounted on the handlebars. Why couldn't the light be closer to the ground?
Well Kent, many of us mount our lights on our forks and on our seatstays. That works well, plus it's free or almost free and illuminates the road, which is really quite important. We rode home from a party last night, first time with our Ixon lamp fork-mounted. We liked it. It showed road irregularities very well.
