Stoker stem advice needed
So, this question is regarding another tandem bike that is in my garage.
This bike actually does not belong to me - it belongs to my blind stoker.
I've been slowly improving it in various ways.
I want to put on narrower handlebars both front and rear. The ones on there now are both 44cm center to center, which is awfully wide. Figured out that if I take off the dummy brake lever hoods a 40cm rear bar will easily clear my butt/thighs.
Now the rear handlebar clamp is 25.4, which I hate. Seems that there is a poor selection of handlebars in that size. I'd like to find a nice 26.0 handlebar. The seatpost is 27.2. There is currently a shim between the seatpost and the stoker stem seatpost clamp.
What are my choices for going to a 26.0 bar clamp or even a 31.8 (which might be even better)? Or should I be convinced to stay with the 25.4 bar clamp for whatever reason?
The extension on stoker stem is currently just above 20cm.
^^^ do you ride (captain) ever resting on the brake hoods? I bet you do. Why not leave that same position available for the stoker?
We use(d) 42cm front and rear, now have 42cm carbon "cowhorn" bars in the back which eliminated over 1/2lb.
Tandems East has a great selection of stoker stems. Our stock 2003 CoMo stoker stem is 26mm.
