First a Raleigh Coupe (not the cheap Companion model they sell now) then upgraded to a wonderful CoMotion Cappuccino with a three color fade paint job.

Here is a picture of our first and only tandem. 2012 Cannondale Road Tandem 2 in medium/small.
We only have 203 miles on it so far. We are starting to get smoother with the bike and each other.

1st tandem a new 2006 CoMotion Speedster (sold)
2nd tandem 1993 Santana Noventa Team (currenlty backup tandem)
3rd tandem 2000 Santana Arriva (converted)
4th tandem 650B tandem conversion from Arriva frame with Bilenky fork. (Current favorite)
This is slightly lighter than the Speedster and the lightest the group even with the cushy 38mm tires run at 80 psi., and front rack.

My love affair with tandem bicycles started back in around 1956, I built a single speed tandem that my younger brother and I rode all over Vincennes, Indiana. It had an idler to take up the sync chain slack, a few months later I rebuilt it and added an adjustable front bottom bracket to do away with the idler.
Over the years we have had an old Schwinn tandem an old Columbus and an old Gitane tandem. In 1989 we bought a new Santana Targa racing tandem that we rode for several years (wife and 3 of my 4 daughters all rode with me as well as my oldest son) we sold it in 2006 after a family tragedy and then in 2010 we bought a used 1989 Santana Visa and found out that we really enjoyed riding together. We rode that bike for a few months and placed an order for a new 2011 Calfee Frame and fork. I ordered all of the components and put it together in May of 2011. We have been riding it almost a year and have ridden nearly 4500 smiling miles. (I am still making changes to it)
Here are pictures of the Targa, Visa and Tetra:

My first and only tandem,
a 1990(-ish) Burley Duet
This was it's stock form. I later put on a pair of 8 speed 105 shifters and a pair of XT v-brakes.
Later sold because at the time I had no money to upgrade/ no way of transporting it. Also, it had a 76mm wide bb shell. No bueno.
That was in 2010 and ever since then I have really wanted another tandem. My girlfriend is starting to show more interest in cycling and she has said she would be on board for another. I am even contemplating thinning out the herd to raise money for one.

Here is our first tandem we bought second hand 21 years ago. I gave it a repaint and modernized some of the componentry about a year ago. We have other tandems as well now but this is still our favorite.

I've only owned one other tandem - a Custom Riedel purchased second hand in 1997. The original owner indicated that he was one of the builders for Ibis and the tandem was built with custom Moron tubing. These are the pics from when I first got it. I changed a number of things on it - but my wife at the time never really enjoyed riding it so we sold it.

Our venerable 1992 Burley Rock 'N Roll, which in its dotage is now our urban tandem. We ride it a mile or so into town for dinner or errands. Parking is now no problem. Flat pedals, and we wear street clothes.

In order from most favorite to least favorite of those that are ride ready today. I also have a 1976 Jack Taylor Tandem frameset I'll be building up sometime in the future and which I don't have pictures.

I think this one is our favorite
We have had a few tandems and I'll have to dig up some pictures, but this one has to be our favorite (for now).
