Wound Up X2 Front Fork Cracks

Had our Wound Up front fork for about three and a half years and done about 12,000 kms including two European tours fully loaded and pulling a Bob Yak (6,000km and 3,900 km). Just noticed some hair line cracks at the front and top of the fork below the vertical steering column.

Any body come across this?

Advice would be much appreciated - do we dump the fork?

thanks

More exactly where? Photos? And talk to Wound-Up. They're quite responsive.

We found a hairline crack on the top of our fork after about a year of use. Probably less than 500 miles. Dealer sent pics to Wound Up. They replaced it under warranty.

As estrem stated he had his fork replaced under warranty....... I would send pictures to wound up and see what they are willing to do for you.

Good luck

Had any cracks on your Wound Up? Wanted to get an impression of how prevalent this problem is. I thought the Wound Up was indestructible.

Thanks for comments

Thanks for that Estrem. Had any further hassles with the fork?

Do you know of any one else that has had problems.

34,000+ miles on our WoundUp tandem fork.
So far so good . . .
To put the record straight, broke a steel experimental tandem fork after 13,000 miles about 20 years ago.
Nothing is indestructable!

The replacement fork has been perfect. No other problems.
FYI we are a 300 lb team. Don't ride a lot. Only about 2000 total miles on the new fork.
I do not know of anyone else with similar problems.

pel - that crack looks pretty serious in a very worrying location. I'm glad you found it before it caused you any problems while riding. Regarding your question in the OP "do we dump the fork?" the answer is certainly YES, I wouldn't even consider riding that. Hopefully Wound Up will come through with a replacement for you.

Yeah thanks Chris_W. Dump for sure. When I think back to some of the mountains we came down in Norway and Greece. Ouch!

I do not think "indestructible" and "carbon fiber fork" belong together in the same sentence.
