New guy looking for a mtb tandem

    Hi,

New guy reporting in! Lately I have been thinking about purchasing a tandem for my wife and I. We both mountain bike, but I am quite a bit faster than she is. I believe that a tandem would work out great for us...it sure seems like it would be a blast! Anyway, comments are welcome and if anyone has a tandem mountain bike that they are thinking about selling please LMK. We are looking for something in the medium/small range. Thanks!

If you are trying to break the ice at low cost, keep an eye out for a Cannondale. You should also call Alex at MTBTandems.com. He produces the Fandango line of tandems and is a dealer for all other brands available in the US.

You mentioned being faster than the wife. Be prepared to ride at a slower pace and work up to faster days. If you do not build the stokers confidence, they will not enjoy the ride and a tandem will be short lived. Your wife is a rider and realize that there is a lot of security and sacrifice to ride on the back in the woods.

2006 Co-Motion Roadster, flat bars, discs and carbon fibre fork, size 22 / 19
2006 Ventana ECDM full suspension mountain tandem
Some single bikes and a couple of KTM's
And most important, someone special that enjoys them with me (except the KTM's)

I'll second the Advice given by PMK. My Wife and I bought from Alex at mtbtandems.com last year and it has been the best year of adventure together yet. We have put 1,000 miles on our Fandango DC9 and every ride is like date night for us. Do it. You won't be disappointed.
