There's an ad on the TandemClassifieds.com website that you might find interesting. It was posted on October 2.

Once gm1230126 gets his, I'd like to purchase a used tandem case too.

Flying to Jackson Wy for some early season riding in the Teton;s and Yellowstone. Can't wait but no fun if you can't get your horse there to saddle up.

BikePro's somewhat antiquated website lists four different sizes for its tandem cases. Also, it isn't clear if there is a difference between a Tandem Case and a Tandem Race Case.

Tandem Case

Tandem Case: 28x69x11 45 lbs

Tandem Race Case

Tandem Case: 30x72x10 41 lbs

Oversize Race Case: 34x72x10 43 lbs

2X Oversize Race Case: 38x72x10 45 lbs

Given that I want the smallest outside size that will fit my size Large/Medium Calfee, which case do I want?

Also, does anybody know anything of the Sci-Con tandem case? Available for $750, $99 shipping.

70" x 17" x 38"

Interesting the depth of 17" vs. 10-11" with the BikePro. Also weighs much less.

Jackson just got another 4" of snow with more expected in the next few days... Love that ride over Teton Pass and the climb to Grand Targee. Enjoy, and interested to here where you fly in to, and can you get a tandem on the planes into Jackson (probably wrong, but I thought they were mostly puddle-jumpers).

The built-in steel frame stand with fork mount and BB platform jacks up the front end by a few extra inches. So, be wary of your frame measurements (see #1 - http://www.shop.bikeprousa.com/media...zing_Chart.pdf). For example, the Calfee Med/Sm we had a couple years ago would not have fit in the BikePro Standard size (30") case using their frame mount setup and we would have needed the Oversize case with the extra 4" height.

I posted a thread a couple years ago about how I removed the steel frame from a Standard sized BikePro case and replaced that with a complete internal frame made of PVC pipe. With that setup, I could actually stand on the case - top or sides, without effecting the precious contents, and the entire case weighed only ~37lbs! see: http://www.bikeforums.net/tandem-cyc...l#post14798041

FWIW, United Airlines still has the same flatrate $200 baggage fee which includes up to 100lbs and vitually no size limit (re: bicycle/tandem baggage). However, do note that some airlines / planes / regions, do not allow baggage > 70lbs or over 30" tall.

I was offered a used Tandem Race Case, Oversized Oversize Race Case: 34x72x10 43 lbs.

But, I am pretty sure that my tandem will fit the standard Tandem Case: 30x72x10 41 lbs.

I am going to hold out for a Standard case. Not so much because the airlines will give a harder time with the 34", but because I want to be able to fit the case in the opening between the trunk and passenger compartment afforded by fold-down seats in 4-door sedan rental cars.

I measured the opening in a new Ford Taurus, and it was 39 x 19", and so should work. The smaller the dimensions, especially height, the more rental car sedan openings it would fit. Full size sedans are half the daily rental cost of small SUV's.

Also, the 41 lbs of weight are an advantage over the 43 lbs. My tandem weighs 26 lbs, so the combined weight of bike and case will be 67 lbs, just under the 70 lb. limit on many airlines.

I have a used Tandem Race Case, 34x72x10 43 lbs. It's for sale, $100, plus shipping.
My replacement tandem on order will be coupled.
I'm still not able to PM yet.

Thanks PMK, but this one sold.

Carbonello's would be great for me, but I'm holding out for the 30".

Hi,
Carbonello,

I am interested in your tandem case if it is still available.

I have a trip in the Fall I am trying to get a case for.
I am dreading the whole experience of getting the tandem on the plane.

Let me know, price and shipping if it is still for sale.

Rob

Flying into Jackson on a United regional jet. I'm told they'll take a tandem at $100 each way but have decided to ship mine in advance to the place we are staying. Not sure it would fit in the rental car in the case. Know I can get it in the rental without the case.

I have a Bike Pro Tandem Case for sale. It is in excellent condition and includes all the original packing material, including wheel bags, fork mount, bottom frame and tube padding. It is on wheels and rolls very easily. It is the "oversize" model which is 34" x 72" x 10". I would like to get $200 for it. I believe the case can be shipped cross country for about $100 (I am located in CT). Case sells new for $700.
My tandem has traveled in this case on 3 airline trips with absolutely no problems including one trip to Europe. For further info on flying with your tandem, check out Santana Tandem's website, Bill McCready is extremely experienced with tandem bikes on airlines and has never had a problem in over 100 trips all over the world.

I received a PM but can't reply or send PM's because I'm a new member and haven't submitted 50 posts yet.
If you sent me a PM, please call 860 872-2943 and leave a message on how I can contact you. Thanks!

I missed out on a used standard size (30x72x10) BikePro Tandem case, and now I can't find any used cases. I'm probably going to have to pony up for a new one, for $600-700 dollars.
