New (to us) tandem
Evening all,
We collected our latest fleet member on Saturday. Having never ridden a tandem before the 50k cycle back home was a laugh a minute. We are lucky enough to have relocated to the Netherlands where all forms of cycling and cycles are positively encouraged.
All we did was pump the tyres up and strap a bag of tools on the rear rack and set off, it was flawless.
I need to service it and look at the pedal cranks as they seem to be a little awry. Apart from that I am looking forward to many rides in summer.

Welcome to the forum. I was able to visit Netherlands about 12 years ago. Bicycles almost everywhere. Need to be aware when a pedestrian before crossing a street! I can't say I remember seeing a tandem while there, so you might be a rare couple on the tandem. If I remember, many people leave bicycles at the train stations so that they have transportation from the train station to their destination. Interesting (smart) way that many of the towns are laid out with a central hub at the train station and spread out from there. Have you figured out more information on the tandem? I believe that that bike would be very rare in the U.S. with the chain guards and fenders. Should make for an all weather machine.

It is a Gazelle ( Dutch manufacturer purchased by Raleigh) and I think that it is mid 1960'. I must admit that I haven't seen any other tandems on the road but there are a few for sale.
Most bikes here are set up for all weather use with full fenders and chain guards. Cycling is a year round form of transportation.
Checking the cycle paths before crossing the road becomes second nature but it is alien at first and the cause of much bell ringing!
Tulip season is close, we are going to Keukenhof (huge tulip garden with over 7 million flowers) at Easter.

The crank alignment was caused by worn cotter pins. Both rears have been replaced.
I have also dated the tandem as a 76 so not as early as I thought.
