Congrats! I just got my first bike last summer and have love riding since. I'm also located in Houston, where have you been getting miles in? I am new to the city and only here for the summer, so just looking for some places to ride.

I will. I've got an appointment set up for tomorrow evening. Figured I'd at least give it a shot. I've done my research regarding what a professional fit entails and how it should go, so I have an idea of what to be looking for. If I feel like they don't know what they're doing or I'm not getting the results I'm looking for, then I will go elsewhere. But, just getting started in the sport, I'm trying to save where I can, and if I save $100+ on a fit, you're dang right I'm going to take advantage of that. From what I discovered, most bike shops do not charge for a fit if you buy the bike from them anyway.

Thanks! I've pretty much been sticking around my neighborhood and haven't really done anything super long yet. But I pretty much live in the country, so I have a lot of long, quiet back roads at my disposal.

I hear the ride around Smithers Lake is supposed to be really nice and scenic. I'll probably try in about 3 weeks. I have Pearland this weekend, Fulshear the next, so possibly after that one. I dunno. This is the basic route in the photo.

So I got my "free" fit done today and I have to say, not bad at all. He did everything in accordance with what I researched, made a few adjustments to my saddle height, bar angle, and cleat/foot position, and what a difference. I put in a few miles on the trainer and the difference is night and day. I also got me a new saddle. The difference in comfort with the adjustments and the new saddle is just crazy. It wasn't a full on professional fit with lasers and all the high tech gadgetry, but I feel completely satisfied with the results. Now it's time to put on some serious mileage.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. The more comfortable you are the more you will ride.
My first fit made night and day difference in how I felt. I was more comfortable on the bike, could go further and even a bit faster... and after the ride, I would be tired but not in pain....made a huge difference for me. I have had 3 of the full on professional fits, with computer video and the whole works... I have the still photos of each of the fits with the angles and lengths all marked for me, so now I can pretty much use those as a basis to dial in any bike I get... but getting it done initially is something I suggest to every new rider...

Yeah, I plan to get it done once I get in better shape and get more serious. I may just wait until I move on to my next bike, which should be a substantial step up. As for now though, my primary focus is fitness, losing some weight, and getting my mechanics down pat. When I get to a point when I'm ready to enter some events and it's more than just a hobby, I will definitely take every step I can to be as fast and efficient as possible.
