Houston - Addicks Dam Road - Paved Bike Path?
I wanted to inquire whether anyone knows of any kind of proposed paved bike path on Addicks Dam Rd, between Barker Cypress and hwy 6? My morning commune takes me from Fry & Morton to North Dairy Ashford and I-10. That means I have to go down Park Row, which can be a bit precarious . The Addicks Dam Road would be perfect if it were paved all the way to hwy 6 at least . Right now, it isn't fully paved; I tried to ride it once, but ended up with a flat.
I looked through the various bike master plans and don't see anything specific on timing around paving the Addicks dam road all the way. Does anyone have any insights on this? Anything I can do or is there anyone I can petition? Thanks in advance.

Doubtful - They made the THP Extension east oh HWY 6, but there isn't anything paved on top of the levee there either.
Best thing to do would be to get in touch with Bike Houston, check their website or tweet them - they would be able to help out most probably.

As an alternative, can you safely get to the South side of I-10 @ Barker Cypress? That's where the paved George Bush trail can be picked up. it's right next to the feeder. It will take you uninterrupted to Hwy 6 and then under to connect to the THP trail. From there it is easy to hit DA @ I-10.
It crosses under Hwy 6 @ Memorial so it takes you a bit out of the way. But I would take that over Park Row any day.

There was an effort starting about 10 years ago to get a segment from the Cullen Park entrance on Saums just west of the Velodrome to NW corner of I-10 and B-C. Bulk of it was getting over the dam on west side of B-C. It ran into permit/funding/timing issues and is in a coma; may be dead.
People I know use B-C to get under I-10 as described above by B. Chris. A buddy commuted to WestLake from your location using that route.
There is effort ongoing that will link trailhead at Patterson & 6 to the underpass of I-10 just west of Eldridge. It will not be very direct and will use Bear Creek Park roads. It can't happen until dam outlet work is done so after 2019.
I am not aware of any proposals from B-C to 6. I have not examined possible terminations at 6 in detail but cursory looks I've done indicate it would be very challenging (big $). I understand the top of the dam can't be paved due to Corps considerations.
Contact me if you want to push the north-south connection across the dam along west side of B-C and we can find out if it has any pulse.

Hi all,
Thanks for the responses! B Chris, I tried the route you suggested last week and it added 2 miles and 10 mins to my commute, which isn't all that bad I suppose. I may continue to take that route and reserve park row for when I'm running late.
Flangehead, thanks for the history regarding development in that area. It would be nice to have that NS connection but that segment isn't too bad for me. I come out of the Cullen Park Saum exit and take S Park View drive to Barker cypress. From there, I have to off-road a bit as I cross the dam on the east side of Barker Cypress, and it's not fun when it has rained recently. Also, the tree branches were getting out of hand and kept knocking the mirror off my helmet, so I took action and cut them back this weekend.
Also I didn't realize there were Corp restrictions in getting the addicts dam road paved. That pretty much kaiboshed that idea. I was also planning to scout out the bear Creek trails to see if there is any potential there. Good to hear there is something in the works for that option.
I suppose I'll just stick to the longer route. If anything comes up with a EW connection north of I10 (like Addicts Dam Rd) I would be interested in furthering that cause.
