Houston to New York
Hi All,
I am a Kiwi who is coming to Houston in September and although I am spending the first week on a course, I am planning to bring my bike from NZ.
We are planning on renting an RV and driving to New York, with me cycling as much of that distance as I can - over three weeks. I have a big race last weekend of October and need to keep training.
I would consider renting a bike (size 54) which would save me on baggage allowance. Does anyone recommend a place that does bike hire that I could then courier back to them from NY? Is it even done?
Just putting it out there. Otherwise, would love to go for a few cycles when I get there and before I leave on the 23rd September for NY.
Thanks in advance
Andrew

I live in Houston and you have an ambitious plan. I am not aware of any place that rents a bike that you could ride to NY and then send back. Another option might be to buy a bike on Craigslist.org in Houston and when you are finished sell it in NY.
You can check Texbiker.net event calendar for rides around Houston.

Thanks for the advice, I will probably just bring my bike - we will rent an RV or car and go from there.
I'll check out the event calendar.
Cheers

I would imagine that a one-way RV rental to NYC would be quite expensive, and dropping it off in NYC itself might be problematic. BTW...If you are thinking about riding into NYC on a bike, the only way to do that from the west is via the George Washington Bridge from Fort Lee, NJ. It's best to go somewhere like Hoboken or Jersey City and take the ferry across the Hudson. The very from Atlantic Highlands is also an option.
