Ride Report, Tour de Junctions
Fantastic.
The town of Junction put on a beautiful ride along 337 to 190 to 23 (don't quote me), about 100 miles. Rest stops spaced about 10 miles apart. At mile 40ish, you rest and walk around Fort Macavat, and if you wish to SAG in or to a further point, you can. This event provides a beautiful view of Texas, and the Fort resides on 80 acres of scenic hill country, with more buildings than Fort Davis or Stockton. Also, opportunities for bird watching is second to none since Junction resides on the migration path to/form most American birds. Other wildlife includes deer running on the road, turtles, frogs, ect...
I cannot stress the peaceful nature derived from this ride and the excellent people executing. Look for more events like this coming from Junction, Tx. Llano State park provides an easy walking on improved trails for post ride activities. The Llano and San Saba rivers affords the opportunities for canoeing/kayaking or fishing.
I do not recommend anything slimmer than 23's for the tar and chip roads. A few spots provided some rough traversing, but only during one section road between 2 points.
