    Anyone in Arlington?

Hi all from a newbie! I'm buying my first road bike this month (unfortunately at the end of the month when the IRS sends me my tax rebate), and I'm so excited to get going! I've been riding my cheap Schwinn mountain bike for years, but I'm tired of being slow! My luck is that I live three miles from bicycles.inc in South Arlington. They have lots of rides that go out from there. I was wondering if there's anyone nearby?

My plan is to train for a 100 mile ride next May and then a 200 mile 4-day breast cancer charity ride in October of 2009. Sounds like a lot, but I tend to be obsessive!

Welcome! I am new to the community here online also! Maybe we will meet on the trail sometime. What kind of bike are you going to be getting?? Or do you know yet?

I'm looking at Specialized and Trek, although I'm leaning towards the Specialized with a few upgrades. At this time, I only have about a $1400 budget including everything such as computer, puncture-resistant tires, etc. Hopefully this will do me for a while!

That should get you plenty of bicycle for the money. I just went and picked up my new ride tonight. I got mine off of craigslist you might want to look on there. I picked up a Scattante CFR with a pair of SIDI shoes for 900 bucks. Full Carbon Fiber with Shimano Ultegra for less than a grand and shoes seemed too good for me to pass up. You may find a diamond in the rough. The guy I bought mine from had ridden 64.9 miles total on the bike and paid well over 1800 bucks so worked out for me. Good luck finding the bike that fits you and that takes you toward your goals!

Hello and congrats! I ride all the time in Arlington. I basically live there, just over the border in Ft. Worth. I bike pretty much everywhere so I'm sure I'll see you around. I'm doing a 130 mile ride out of Joe Pool lake marina this Saturday.....

Welcome I am over in the Hurst, Colleyville Area. Charity rides and local bike shop group rides are a great way to meet a few riding buddies of all different skill levels. Check out Bicycles Inc for some of there group rides, http://bicyclesinc.com/page.cfm?pageID=16

Welcome, I live about 5 miles North of you close to I-30 and Eastchase. The Bikes Inc. Sunday rides, historically, are a great way to prepare for a century ride. In my experience, these rides, around 40-45 miles with a great mixed group (old, young, men, women), have finished with a 17-19mph pace. They also have a century ride one Saturday a month out of their shop. See you around.

I ride a silver Litespeed and during the week I am usually riding in North Arlington a couple of evenings a week.

It's a great off-road trail for road riding, and I've posted some directions here:

I'm about 3 miles away from you, coming from Meadowbrook. I probably pass by your place for most of my errands.

I thought you might live close by. Would love to ride with you and Steve sometime, but given all the terrible things he has said about you, I'm not sure. Just kidding.

I'll try to make one of the night rides you guys have been doing and maybe we could meet up then.
