Wish the DB group's 17mph average had been 'optimistic', instead it was a bit on the low side. At the rest stop Tailchaser had us running an 18+ average. I slowed down a bit on the way back, but I think I finished with above a 17.5 mph average.
Jeff, I'm riding Sunday, but it's going to be a 50mi ride. Not sure what my plans for tomorrow are.

Wow, people still riding at White Rock lake. I rode many, many laps there in the late 70's while in college, before moving to San Diego in 1980. You guys are tough to ride in the heat...after a few years in San Diego I came back and did the Fourth of July Crit in Highland Park (around the big Presbeyterian Church) and the heat was amazing. I suppose Hwy 544, and 121 are now suburbs.

I've never ridden laps (ie, multiple laps) around WRL, but normally ride down from 635 on the White Rock Creek Trail- is it newer than the WRL trails? Going from 635 is about 22 or 23 miles round trip.
There are some tricks to the heat. Part of it is being accustomed to it in the first place, and if you move off and back, you may not be. Part of it is being thin and not "well insulated". Being young probably helps, too. Slowing down some helps, too; riding a crit would be a lot different from cruising around the lake.
On Hwy 121- not sure. It's been re-routed, and the new part is 4-lane or wider highway. But the older route may still be there. I don't live or ride up that way.
When we lived in Euless, we'd go up 121 to Frisco and north to Gunter. Frisco was a sleepy little town. There was a big car dealership where 121 and 289 crossed. Last time I went through there, I think that area was a mall, and the only building I recognized in the whole town was the Staley Steel building out north on 289. It used to on the outskirts of town.

Hey Guys...Stats on the Slow Ride...I took almost 3 hours to do it, 34.7 mi from RBM to around WRL, 12.2 avg. The route is really easy, there are still some rough spots on the WRL trail. It Was Hot. Yeah, the thermometer on the bike computer was in the sun, but I started looking at it when it said 99, and it read 104 most of the rest of the time. I emptied out my 100 oz camelback. Naturally, since it was a holiday Ye Olde Butcher Shop was closed, and I had to make do with Braums. Oh Well.
Sunday AM about 8-9 (let's agree on a time), is a go for me. I liked that ride.

Earlier the better in my book. I'll take a 7am ride over an 8am ride this time of year. I rode to and from the start so my stats are a bit skewed but I had: 38.5mi, 17.6 pace. I would have had a 17.8+ had I not had a slow 3 miles back to the apartment after splitting off from the group. There was a lot of traffic with parades and such going on along my route.

LSR has a Sunday ride tomorrow, I think in conjuncton with PBA. It's a populaire, so no need to be a member. It should be a conversational pace, and there will likely be multiple groups for whatever speeds you like.
It starts at 8 am from a Tom Thumb on Alma and Hedgecoxe in Plano. Here's the cue sheet: https://lonestarrandon.tripod.com/cue...ue%20Sheet.pdf

Just got back from a loop around the lake- just rode from my house down there, around the lake and back. Left about 4:00 PM. I figured the heat would be terrible, but it didn't really seem that bad, a bit breezy, occasional cloud over the sun. Averaged 12.9 mph on 25.9 miles per my odometer.

Memorable moment during the ride...
Me: There's no crying in baseball.
Them: This isn't baseball.
Me: Exactly.

Cuda - don't act like the Labor Day ride last fall wasn't like a 19.5 avg - and was advertised as what, a 17-18? The funny thing is that the "fast" ride ended up about the same average, but took over an hour longer after several mechanicals and a significant leg cramp by our fearless leader.

Yeah, labor day ride last year was amazing fast. Not sure what sort of shape I'm going to be in for the ride this labor day.
As far as the 4th july ride, it was fast, nothing I couldn't handle on most days. Bit more than I was planning for the start of the 3 day weekend. It's great that you're back on the bike dude, hope to be able to hang on with you on DB1 the next couple weeks leading up to my surgery in August. And since I don't want to get dropped or left at a rest stop, I won't say anything about your wrenching skills on your wife's bike.

Here's photos and a short write up of my weekend's worth of riding:
great 3 days of riding over the Holiday weekend. Started off with a 38mi ride on the Serotta on Friday the 4th. It was the first ride back for BF member Tailchaser, who was leading. 3 weeks off the bike did nothing to slow him down! Saturday's ride was with my local club, their "Distance Builder" ride, another 45mi on the Serotta. I've been running my Fulcrum 5 Evolution wheels on it the last couple weeks since my Campy / Mavic Open Pro wheels have had a noise in the rear that I want to have looked at before I put many miles on it. Not quite as nice of a ride as the 3x standard wheels, but pretty darn quick when I need to lay down the power. Hit a max speed of 39mph sprinting to the front of the group to inform them of a mechanical problem in the back of the group at one point.
Today's ride was a memorial ride for a member of the club that passed away this past New Year's. His birthday would have been tomorrow. There were two rides, a full century (yeah right, not after the last two days) and a half century. The target pace was well within what I enjoy riding the Gazelle at, so off on the white/blue Gazelle AB-Frame I went this morning. Felt really great on the bike today. Even with the south / south-west winds on the second half of the ride, I felt pretty strong.
Winding through a neighborhood on Friday.
Headed home after Friday's ride, got passed by these guys. Lots of local parades and such organizing about that same time.
Saturday's ride. This nearing the half way point as we headed back south from Prosper, Tx back into McKinney. The blue jersey on the second rider up is a Texas BikeForums jersey (and a BF's member wearing it).
Two BF's members can be seen in this photo. The Texas and the OU jersey.
Today (Sunday)'s ride. Headed north to Princeton, Tx. I was happy to hang in back and snap a few photos as the Campy Super Record brakes aren't as responsive as modern dual pivots even with Kool Stop pads.
One last photo from today's ride. We had a nice tail wind and a nice smooth road so photo taking was easy at that moment.
