Registering bike with police in Dallas...

Does the Dallas PD have any sort of bike registration service? I checked their website and couldn't find any information.

Thanks.

They don't do bike registration anymore. Decades ago, they did, and it worked (for me, once).

When I was a kid, they used to come to your school and etch info on the underside so they could get recovered bikes back to the owner. I'd say do your own DL# or something on the bike (but the experienced crooks file it off and paint them), and take some pics, and keep your receipt. I used to be a big city cop and now in the insurance biz... Not much you can do but lock them up good. The city pound always has lots of bikes (rarely a nice one though).

Just my two cents worth...

Now days, the word is don't put your DL on stuff, use some other identifier. Identity theives use the DL number even to screw you.

Hey I have a great idea. Put your social security number, your name, address and bank account number... and sign your name!

They still do.

You can file your bike's serial number with them (and your TV, and any other property). Go by one of the local stations or storefronts/community policing locations. Aids in recovery of stolen property.
