N. Dallas BF's Meet & RIDE?

Would anyone be interested in coming out to N. Dallas (most likely a Plano or Allen start location if I come up with the route) for a BF's meet & ride? After the more or less success of the 2nd annual N. Dallas Vintage Ride last month, I suspect we can get a BFs ride off the ground as well. Here's the deal:

1) Distance: approx 35miles

2) Avg Speed: approx 16mph

3) MOVING speeds: ranging from 15-19mph depending on terrain.

4) Route will include roads ranging from rural Farm-Market roads to Residential secondary and feeder streets / roads. Some roads will likely have posted speed limits up to 45mph. I will pick the safest possible roads, but your safety is ultimately your responsiblity. Helmets will be required.

5) It will be a No-Drop ride, however please make sure you are capable of the outlined speed / distances posted above. Route maps and cue sheets will be provided and/or posted before the ride date for printing and review.

6) With high temps already reaching the mid 90's during the day, and morning temps pushing up over the 70 degree mark, the earlier we can kick off this ride the better. I have a few different routes in mind for different wind / start location options. All will have at least one rest stop for water / etc. Be prepared to carry enough water for 17-20mi between rest stops.

UPDATES:

We will be leaving from Celebration Park, Allen Tx on Sunday May 14th @ 7:30 am.
Meeting point will be in the WEST parking lot of Celebration Park, accessed from Malone Rd, between Exchange Parkway & Main/McDermott. Malone is approx 3 miles East of I-75.

Your use of "coming out" and BFs in such close proximity concerns me, young padawan.

@ gigemags1155: a 7am start would probably be the earliest I'd start things off so that those coming from points around DFW could make it without getting up too terribly early. 7:30 is also a possibility, 8am at the latest in my opinion since we're already getting some pretty warm days already this year.

It'd be cool....but I never had an avg speed that fast. Gotta pass unless there's some other slowpokes out there who want to do a C (maybe D) group version of the ride.

Heck, I'll ride with you. It fits my current training regiment for the Inverse Hour record. I'm gunning for the least amount of distance covered in an hour while actually moving on a bicycle.

Can we work in an ice cream or a pie stop?

Reminds me of the annual "Slow Bike Race" when I was in HS (back in the dark ages). the key was to get on the track and go as slow as possible without putting a foot down or falling over. (the only time I was able to stay with the peloton) We didn't know we were practicing our track stands.

Oh! and MMMMmmmmm..........piiiiiiie......with iiiiiiiiice cream. (drools)

I'm interested, and will even try to make it this time
7:30 sounds good to me as the cagers are more likely to be awake and about
after 8:00.
I'll ride with the D- group!

I'd be up for this. Where would we start. My house is very close to some excellent riding in Allen/Fairview/Lucas. I'd even be willing to provide donuts to anyone who might want some.

I don't recommend donuts as a pre-ride meal. Nor is skipping breakfast because you are running late a good idea. Don't ask me how I know this.

If the route is conducive to it, maybe each could ride at their desired speed with planned re-grouping points? Or stay as a group until a break off point for shorter/longer routes and join back up at planned point(s)?

Btw, not that it is happening here, but I've seen a lot funny math when it comes to cyclists calculating average speed. For instance, hypothetical "18mph ave", but still take three hours to move 36 miles.

I recall reading years ago that the slow-riding had been pretty well abandoned after some Japanese guy sat motionless on his bike for 12 hours.

When y'all are riding at 7:00 AM to beat the heat, I'll be riding that afternoon...it's not quite that terrible. Slow down a bit, take fluids, sweat a lot.

I really love 7am rides. Last Sunday it was 58 degrees when we started. Upper 70's by 9AM.

Okay maybe donuts not the best idea. Still I'd be willing to be the starting point of the ride.

Put me down for the C/D group also. Although this isn't an offical C/V ride can I still bring the Paramount?

Sitting Still? Pffft. I plan on matching the rotational axis of the Earth and still maintain balance.

Heh, I would offer that the F-150 of fate with extended cab mirrors can inspire more than it's share of religous experiences..........

I'm going to suggest Celebration Park in Allen as the starting point. I know it's a bit north east for many in the DFW area, but it's on the edge of the "conquered" lands of DFW. If we did the same route we used for the Vintage Ride, it's about a 60/40 split of rural country roads and fairly quiet suburb secondary streets.

Oh, and if we want to do an A/B group, I can certainly extend the "A" ride length a little up to probalby 40-45mi while giving the B group a 35 and 25mi options. We can ride together out for the first 15mi and then split off as long as the leader of the B group knows the route (it's not that difficult!)

Date TBD. This weekend is probably a little close for many to plan for. But perhaps the following weekend, so June 13th (Sat) or 14th (Sunday).

Let's plan for next Sunday morning the 14th. The 13th is the Collin Classic ride which, unless I'm having a door installed, I'd like to make that morning. This ride will be a good post-Collin Classic for me.

Yay! I ride I can go on!

I wish I could take time off work for the Collin Classic this year though.
I had a good time last year. (bonking for the last 5 miles withstanding)
