August Rides - Come out and meet the Lone Star Randonneurs

Below is some information about August Rides (populaires) being put on by the Lone Star Randonneurs. A populaire is a free ride to raise interest in randonneuring. There are 2 100K rides and one 100 miler. This is a fantastic group of people and there will be groups of all speeds, so don't think you need to be a racer type to join in. The fun and comraderie on these rides is absolutely amazing. If you think you might be interested, there is an RSVP toward the bottom. If you're curious, but not sure the rando thing is for you, shoot me a PM and I'll try to change your mind.

Steve

In memory of devout cyclist and Hotter-N-Hell Hundred (HHH) fanatic
MARK SACHNIK,
the Lone Star Randonneurs (LSR) presents

GEAR UP FOR HOTTER-N-HELL!!!

One of Mark Sachnik's many passions was helping other cyclists
challenge themselves - riding faster and pushing the distance. In the
summer, he created and led longer rides to help others build up for
HHH. The north Texas long distance bicyclists, Lone Star Randonneurs
(under RUSA), presents this series of rides in honor of Mark.

IT'S A FREE RIDE -- NO ENTRY FEE! Bring a friend and ride some
nice roads, meet other riders, and maybe push the limits with longer
distances. No formal SAG support, and no rest stops - you may choose
to purchase food/drink at stores along the routes. We would love a
large turnout, as would Mark. No membership requirements, unless
interested in joining RUSA (www.rusa.org).

THE RIDES:
SUNDAY, AUGUST 2, 2009, 8:00 am
62 miles (100 km), start/finish in Princeton, TX
Ride out and back from Princeton to Tom Bean grocery store
PARK in the lot at the SE corner of East College Avenue and North 2nd
Street, across from Lacy Elementary School

SUNDAY, AUGUST 9, 2009, 8:00 am
62 miles (100 km), start/finish in Celina, TX
Ride a loop from Celina to Howe, Tioga, and return to Celina
PARK in Celina downtown square area (square includes Louisiana Dr.,
Pecan St., Ohio Dr., and Walnut St.)

SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, 2009, 8:00 am
106 miles (170.6 km), start/finish in Plano, TX
Ride a loop from Plano to Caddo Mills, Celeste, Princeton
PARK in the Tom Thumb parking lot at the SW corner of Alma and
Hedgcoxe in Plano (7801 Alma Drive, Plano TX)
https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Marko-Polo-Century

MAIN REQUIREMENTS:
1. Sign the waiver at the ride start
2. Have a "ride card" completed throughout the ride (this is easy and
we can walk you through it)
3. Wear a helmet
4. In exchange for above rules, RUSA provides insurance
5. Bring a friend!
6. Please RSVP, even if tentative, so that we have enough paperwork -
we will provide all "ride cards" and cue sheets 7. A cue sheet
holder or another clip method for the cue sheet is recommended (zip
tie alligator clips to handlebar)
8. Mainly, RIDE SAFE and HAVE FUN, Mark would want it!

MORE DETAILS:
TIME: 8:00 AM departure for all rides - please arrive early enough to
be ready
PACE: Everyone may ride at their own pace, or with a group as they
like. There are no official pace/ride leaders. The only
qualification is that there is both a minimum and maximum speed
average (9.3 - 21 mph) that must be maintained to complete the "ride
card." These rides are non-competitive in nature, and all finishers
from first to last are given equal recognition.
WEATHER: Let's hope for cooperative conditions, but we ride at 8:00
am rain or shine
RSVP: Please respond to Sharon Stevens at smst199@yahoo.com or George
Elizondo at gre099@gmail.com to RSVP, even if tentative, so that we
have enough cue sheets printed.
RUSA INFO: More info about long distance bicycling can be found at
www.lonestarrandon.org, and the RUSA main site www.rusa.org
Official rules can be found at www.rusa.org/brvreg.html

Any questions, please let us know. We are looking forward to seeing
y'all there!

I felt I wasn't ready for Hotter than Hell but one of these rides are very close, I HAVE to try that one. It'll be right on time too since I'm expecting my new Mercier Galaxy Steel from BD in a couple of days!

If only it were so easy. For me it's a work thing, or more accurately a sleep before work thing.

If I could knock one of these bad puppies out in 3 hrs it would be one thing, but I'm more of a just above the rotational axis of the earth average mph guy

I emailed Sharon Stevens to RSVP a spot for the rides in Celina and Princeton. I'll be on my new Mercier Galaxy Steel by then.
