Need bike recommendations for casual Texas hill country riding
Hey all,
First post here. I'm 28 (male) and looking to get into casual riding. I have an airplane hangar in Stonewall, Tx (near Johnson City) and would like to keep a bike in there for rides into town and around the backroads. I guess I'm looking for a hybrid as I'd like to do some roads but maybe a few trails here and there. Nothing hardcore, just basic exercise.
With that said, what's a good bike for me that is easy on my budget of $500-1000? Anyplace locally with good deals?
Thanks!

Performance now has 15% off all 2009 bikes, AND this weekend is double points (20% off value in points) if you become a Performance member. Combine the two and you effectively get 1/3 off.
You should go look at crosss bikes and others as well as hybrid.
Your decision could be made on which kind of bars do you want, straight like a mountain bike or drops like a road bike.
If I was going to ride only one bike mostly on roads and an occassional trail I would go for the cross.

Or you could go for a straight bar like this: https://www.performancebike.com/bikes..._400001_400310
I just used these bikes as models not particular recommendations.
Go check performance out, they have lots of bikes.
