New to Austin, need some good road rides

I've just moved to Austin for grad school, and I'm living north of campus on 32nd between Guadalupe and Lamar. We've got everything settled and now im craving some nice road riding. Can anyone suggest a good route that i can do starting at home? I'd rather not have to drive out of town to start just yet. I'm looking for something around 20 miles-ish, but up to around 40 for now just to get used to some of the riding areas.

It would be a drive for you but the road is FANTASTIC! Check out the new Ronald Reagan blvd. It actually is Parmer Ln. So you can ride from MOPAC all the way out to Williams Dr. in Georgetown and back...great 8 to 12 foot shoulders, lots of bikers so the drivers are very aware...roads are silky smooth but be warned, once you cross 1431 going North, there are no services...its all rural...

I join the Mozart's to Mansfield ride. It's tough but fun.

Are you going tomorrow morning? I was trying to figure out a ride for tomorrow morning and was thinking of going out to, at least, Mansfield dam. Maybe I'll meet you guys down there and see how I do. I have a feeling the distance and the speed are a little high for me but I know the route well and can always swallow my pride and drop of the back and head home. Does the route go down 2222? Typically if I do a loop I'll go all the way up to Jollyville and come down 360 instead of 2222. We'll see.

Definitely going tomorrow yes.

The route tomorrow does not go down Tumbleweed Hill on 2222, we cut through Riverplace and pop out on Citypark Rd. If you can make it, I'll be wearing my "eLoyalty" jersey on a Blue RD1. Hope to see you there.

When I ride the damn loop alone, I usually continue up to Anderson then down Jollyville back to 360 as well. Makes for a 45 or so mile loop.

Nice to meet ya, L1NUX. That ride cooked me. It was a struggle to get home from Mozarts, especially having to climb Rollingwood Drive again. I made it but spent the afternoon fighting off foot cramps. I should have turned around at the dam. Oh well...now I have a gauge of my fitness level. Feel fine this morning however, so no long term damage done!

Well, if you made it once, you can make it again. It was a pleasure meeting you as well. Hopefully we'll see you at that ride next time.
